This Thread Blows - C19 and beyond

Can someone explain to me why they don't just reformulate the mRNA vaccine based on the delta variant?

I would assume that would make sense for any booster shots.

It's too similar to the current. What Pfizer et al are saying is that a 3rd "booster" of the current vaccine will increase antibody production significantly and provide further protection against delta and other variants. FDA will probably approve this strategy in the fall.

Based on what? Wishful thinking?? These waves have become predictable - they peak around 6 weeks and then drop. FL is about 3 weeks ahead of NJ so when they are going down, NJ will still be going up. And don't think a little higher vaccination rate is going to make much difference - look at the UK:

And wow - Iceland with 75% vaccinated:

PS just got back from ShopRite in Flemington. Maybe 5% wearing masks

C-19 is a moving target. Rules adjusted as situation changes, on a day to day basis. It's a virus. It doesn't care who or what it's screwing with. Just that you breathe air.

"Rules" are pissing in the wind at this point - just something so politicians can say "I'm doing something". Vaccination is the only thing that really makes a difference and even vaccination rates over 60% aren't stopping this current delta wave. Just have to ride it out and get ready for the next one in the winter. And face the reality that covid isn't going anywhere.

Ok, @Dr. Rickenstein, if vaccines are the only things that make a difference, why is the death rate in Florida so much higher than Japan before the vaccines were available.

:scrw::scrw::scrw::scrw::scrw:😮🤔🤭

Good lord were you drunk when you wrote that question? What does Japan have to do with FL??

PS NJ is about to reach a very ignominious milestone re: deaths/1 million population.

It would cost money, unless the gov is prepaying what we have is good enough if what was happening right now was happening with a hire rate a vaccination it prob happen

Those charts show the recent peak rate in the UK as 2X Iceland. The 3 week lag is not in evidence comparing NJ to FL this time. They both started to rise at the beginning of July. My answer: not changed.

Heading to Orlando area tomorrow. 😁

EDIT: Just read that FL hospitalizations from COVID have passed their pre-vaccine peak. Delta is double plus ungood.

Iceland at 150 cases per day maybe isn't an apples to apples comparison?

5.2M vaccines in NJ
1.1M total cases
6.3 of 8.8 million covered there
(yes yes I know but I need a benchmark)
This is 72%

10.5M vaccines in FL
2.6M total cases
13.1 of 21.5 million covered there
This is 61%

Basically there is more fresh meat in FL as compared to NJ. So I think the NJ spike will not be as severe. By winter NJ will be converging on 100%

I make no claims if this analysis is anything but rich creamery bullshit.

On a side note I am on the outskirts of Boston right now and I went into a Whole Foods tonight. I would say 70% wearing masks. I was somewhat surprised.

So.... scheduling a 2wk b-trip to covid central... Bangladesh where only 2-3% is vaccinated.
Am I gonna die?

Iceland surprised me with such a high vaccination rate - we will likely never get there (75%+). 150 cases/day there is equivalent to 150K cases/ day in the US.

PS I bet the whole foods near Princeton would have a similar mask wearing rate!

I can’t speak for Whole Foods, but the masked people in Wegmans went WAY down.
