This Thread Blows - C19 and beyond

The vaccine is to prevent you from getting the virus, it won't do anything if you've already got it. So you have to decide whether or not you want the rushed vaccine without knowing if you'll get the virus or how bad it will be for you.

This - vaccines are extremely safe - I wouldn't hesitate.

This is the most detailed analysis of state-wide covid patients I've seen. Glad to see only 40% in FL (as of a few days ago) are 60 yrs or older:

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/coronavirus/article241410296.html

Now they are reporting that in the US a large % of positives are younger than 48. I saw reports last night of 12 year olds with no pre existing conditions on ventilators.

This whole thing sucks. As someone with pulmonary issues and a small business I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams warned Monday that the coronavirus outbreak will worsen this week and said that people across the country are not taking the threat seriously enough.

“I want America to understand this week, it's going to get bad,” Adams said in an interview on the “TODAY” show.

The disease is spreading, he said, because many people — especially young people — are not abiding by guidance to stay at home and practice social distancing.

correction - vaccines are extremely safe when they have undergone properly designed multi-phase clinical trials proving the SAFETY and EFFICACY prior to being available for public use. Obviously there's no way to test the long-term safety of a new vaccine over the short-term.

Improperly developed vaccines can cause disease enhancement - i.e. instead of getting sick - you get very sick/die when infected w/ the virus. This was a problem encountered when attempting to develop a vaccine for SARS, which ultimately no vaccine was ever approved, and is structurally similar to the current coronavirus.

That's what you get when you gamble.

We can't just have the government bankroll the airlines, then every other big org that starts to go under. This may be a solid 12 months of economic distress. We as a country need to focus our effort & resources to getting to the other side of this virus. We can't just dump billions-to-trillions of dollars into the airlines to have them sit around and do nothing every day.

I absolutely agree that as a nation we need to help ensure that come 2021 there is a way to fly. But the answer isn't "just give em' a shit ton of money." The airlines need to work with the government to ensure that flights can start up again at some point with additional safety measures in place. Maybe we're looking at a 50% increase in fares and no middle seats are sold for the time being. Maybe you need to start buying rows as a family. IDK the answer to this and it's frankly not my job to come up with a solution.

WELP I just got off a call from corporate notifying me that I came in close contact with someone who tested positive.

tbh I wouldn't be surprised if they got it from me 🙁 but I've never show symptoms

One thing I always found weird is seeing nurses wearing their scrubs outside the hospital. In Italy nurses and doctor get dressed in their working clothes when they arrive at the hospital and gets back into their regular clothes when they leave. Same thing for shoes. My wife was a nurse in England before moving here and she’s always telling me that she would be issued a warning and eventually reprimanded if she were to show up at the hospital in her uniform or left in it. You’re not supposed to bring nasties in from outside or from inside to the outside. Regardless of the corona thing.

This is how I've gotten C-diff, my wife had a patient came home and I did her laundry, this has happened 3 times so I get it. The issue is hospitals here don't really lend them selves to that for staff.

agree, however phase I safety trials are now underway in the US. I will trust they get it right

For the gloom and doomers - keep watching individual states, particularly ground zero WA and CA. They are seeing new daily cases in the hundreds. Only NY is getting out of hand right now, in a day or two they will have the same prevalence as Italy. Thankfully, deaths are an order of magnitude lower.

And of course watch NJ - a one day jump of 600+ cases is not good.

Large jumps in cases are pretty closely related to easier access to testing. This has been around a long time... just now we can easily test for the scary name.

Yeah. And the fact that NJ is not reporting the number of people tested means to me the state is not being transparent for some reason. What that reason is...is a great question.

I thought they just cause autism.

It's all based on numbers being tested. If everyone had access to a test most states would have huge numbers of positives by now.
