This Thread Blows - C19 and beyond

Read an article that the temp hospitals in Wuhan have all been closed, as they are now unneeded. Their quarantine worked it seems.

There, it began spreading in December. Only really began multiplying in January. So, two months. Not too bad for saving people and supplies.

Dee went back to work today. She's a surgical tech and works with a few different docs.

There are no available anesthesiologists available for surgery; they are either pulled to hospitals or they have been exposed themselves by monitoring ventilators. One central NJ family of 5 apparently has 4 people on ventilators. I don't know where they are from or what facility they are in.

I'm back to work Wednesday night. I am REALLY glad I'm on nights this month. That alone will limit exposure a bit. At least until April.

Until then, I'm riding solo and putting some miles on the M2.
stay safe out there...

My concern is really for the food supply (grocery stores) and medication supply. What happens when the production of medications overseas are halted? People die?

When production of medication overseas is halted (which it won't be), then you get the better, non-generic medication that is produced here under tighter quality and manufacturing controls.

In 48 to 72 hours the Stafford Act will be enacted. Expect national shut down for 2 weeks.

Get your supplies, me, i am grabbing lots of paint and windows. Finally gonna take care of that honey do list 🙂

Happy homesteading!!!

AKA legalized price gouging.

But I agree with the takeaway that we don't really need to worry about medication stopping.

a lot of medications are not manufactured in the US at all - not even a single antibiotic for example. and even those that are, are not nearly enough to supply the US demand.

Are we talking landing planes on the NJTPK kinda shutdown

Not meaning to be alarmist but power just went out non weather related. Came back on after 15 minutes but it is a reminder of what could be. No doubt all's ok but fill up the tank, keep phones fully charged and grab batteries.

Nice visualizations... but I'm getting tired of all these things making it seem like it is a 100% infection rate. When that is simply not the case...

Sure - lots of variables, as they kept it academic.

some variables:
Nobody is immune -
Chance of catching on contact is not 1 -
Not everyone will make contact before the back-end/vaccine (we hope)

Currently, other than social distance, we don't have any boundaries before saturating the health system, or the community at large
(not enough healthy people to care for the sick people?)

one of the things i'm tracking it the Princess Cruise - out of the 696(?) cases, 230ish haven't resolved. that is 2 months.
15 are critical. that is a frightening worst case.

N.J. closing casinos, movie theaters, gyms tonight because of coronavirus. Takeout and delivery still an option at restaurants, bars.
