Just curious. What would a better ability to test, help with?
Other than adding to the hysteria of course.

Excellent question. I'm sure 'they' have an idea of what the confirmed to actual ratio is. Not sure it matters. The really sick will get counted. It overstates worse case, which might be adding to there problem. On the other hand, people were not taking it seriously until the stories started coming out of Italy so the overstatement may help.

It could also divide people, but that would not last. Can only hide for so long

The numbers come from John's Hopkins, I think I believe then more than you.

People should not be out and about enjoying their daily lives right now. Restaurants, bars, everything but grocery stores and pharmacies should close and people should stay home and quartering themselves to help get this under control, cause by the end of the week hospitals will be running out of vents and people will be dying because a bunch of selfish assholes couldn't stay home for for a couple weeks.

No one with a little sniffle is being tested. The US is way behind on testing.
All do respect, but unless they’re infectious disease specialists they don’t know more than me. I got my graduate degree in Microbiology, Immunology, and Biochemistry from a medical school. I took all the 101 classes with the med students, very few of them in the advanced classes later on. Then there was the time that 2 MDs at a local hospital I won’t mention diagnosed my very obvious lime disease as a beetle bite, then infected needle injection site from taking steroids, ON MY BACK! So no, unless it’s from a world renowned epidemiologist, not listening.

My client is home under quarantine. Her and her husband have been sick for almost 2 weeks - serious respiratory shit. I called today to check on her. She said she was finally told to go to the ER on Friday. Waited 7 hours to get tested for Covid-19. No one in the crowded ER was wearing a mask except the nurses who spoke with her. They took a swab, gave her antibiotics and told her to go home and stay there. She said they told her it would take up to 5 days to get the results, that the sample had to be sent out and the labs are overwhelmed.

Here's a good example of not being able to get tested. All the symptoms, even difficulty breathing, can't find anyone to test her. If you're not headed to the ICU, you're not getting tested. This shit is out there in the community, and the more people are out there, the quicker this gets way out of control. It's going to end in the entire nation going on lockdown because people are just refusing to take off the blinders.

I get it. And I’m not trying to be argumentative. But if she did get tested, and regardless of the result, how does that help anything?
Do they have special treatment for positive results?

Isn't the point of ALL medical testing to determine the course of treatment? For example, to rule out a bacterial infection that could be treated with antibiotics. Or to identify it as some other type of infection that has a well understood treatment. And yes, there are some treatments available for the Covid symptoms, if not an outright cure for the virus.

If people know they are sick then they can quarantine and not get others sick. Of course by then it’s probably too late. This is the massively exponential problem we are about to face.

What people are still not getting through their thick skulls is that Coronavirus symptoms are proving to be much worse than the flu. When has the seasonal flu overwhelmed the ICU of entire countries?!? Wake the fuck up and lock yourselves down.

Hoboken now has a curfew and Teaneck requests all resident to stay home.

When you do actual research on this I'll listen to your opinion. Till then I'll trust the experts.

I really don’t care if anyone listens to me TBH, the logic ship has sailed. I just think that it’s all been pretty irresponsible of our elected officials, media, and the “experts” out there to create this atmosphere of hysteria. Instead of creating an environment of caution, diligence, and restraint, we have what we have now.

I thought it was "Lyme" disease?

The problem lies in the fact that most people don't listen to reason. So if the CDC recommends that people stay home, most people will say, "Fuck that you stay home I'm going out."

Most people see themselves as a snowflake and different from everyone, and that rules do not apply to them. Unfortunately we're in a society where you need to be slapped in the face with something repeatedly before you believe it. But that is due in large part to the people themselves. If we did not flock to sensational media in the first place, it would not be required for something like this.

We as a society have lost the ability to read & understand facts. If we do not like something we just say "I don't believe it" and move on.

Look across the world, it is cultural. One day its sunshine and butterflies the next it is the end of your own world, it is not anyone's problem till it is their own problem. Look at the parade in morristown, it was canceled yet you still had police bands showing up and festivities. Tickets should have been handed out and people should have been booted off the streets.

We're are more worried about what covid is doing to the economy then what it will do to us. We're so stupid

I seem to have a chest cold. My wife has a stuffy nose and a cough. Neither have any sort of temp. We would love to be able to take a test which of course would be normal so we could rest a little easier. Or not.

You need a Xanax. For reals.

That makes sense, and I would want piece of mind too. But at a larger scale I think the testing issue is something that will be majorly politicized later and that’s why media outlets are really drilling it home right now.

I think you have kids? Maybe not. God forbid they wake up with a fever tomorrow morning. Politics will not at all enter your mind. Nor will money, nor will anything but doing everything you can do to make sure they're ok.
