This Thread Blows - C19 and beyond

So Wisconsin's stay at home order was ruled unconstitutional. Their bars and restaurants were immediately packed like it was decided Covid is gone. Without a vaccine this will just move around the country.

This was last night.

Wisconsins don’t GAF. If cases don’t dramatically spike among non-seniors these next few weeks then I guarantee a majority of the country won’t GAF.

Is there a notable improvement in their economy?
Because open or closed, if ppl are not going out regardless, the previous downward trend of infections/deaths will continue.

well obviously some people are back to work - would imagine employment change wouldn't show for a month

This whole open the economy back up thing intrigues me. At least in our area people definitely have not stopped spending money. Maybe Colorado or France's Economy is suffering because these people can't get to their Vacation Homes, but the local economy is making bank.

Over reaction. This was mostly northern WI. Ever been there? Very sparsely populated. Two counties have zero cases of covid. In any event, local towns are enacting their own closures in all the areas with significant cases.
I am currently in WI(dont ask) and I can say not every place opened up. I had to call in my food order and wait for it to be brought to my car by a masked server, but the place was packed in parking lot of people waiting for their order. The roads are mobbed though as if nothing is going on and honestly dont think many were following the SIP order prior anyway based on what I saw earlier in the week.

Most people in your area take trains and cars into their nice white collar office jobs. Now they get the same pay and leave their yoga pants on all day and save on the commute time.

The whole "shutdown" economy makes things quite nice for some people, quite horrible for others.

But not all businesses are open. I'm having some of my busiest days ever, but the deli next door is down 70%. The salon next to that is at zero percent since the lockdown.

Between no babysitter, no after school, no eating out, and no buying gas, we're spending easily $2k less per month. There was an article on CNN about people hoarding cash, evidenced by a big uptick in savings rate and reduction in CC debt. Maybe some are, but there are plenty of people who just don't have anything to spend it on.

How many people are really dying? Is it actually more than normal? Wouldn't all those old people have died anyway?

Plenty. Yes. No.

"Vital statistics released by the state show the total number of deaths by any cause between March and April rose from 12,567 last year to 23,070 this year. The 10,503 additional deaths recorded this year represent an 83% increase over 2019."
