Thinking of new pedels

I have the shimono pedals that have the clip less on one side and a platform on the other. Great pedal for road and casual riding. Lately I have been doing a lot of mountain biking and the platform side has become a issue. When starting off trying to find the clip less side going down a hill could be dangerous. A friend of mine has the egg beater type but I do still use the bike for casual riding were I don't wear my biking shoes. Could you guys recommend something for me. Thanks

I love love my shimono Xtr platform clip pedal. They make it also XT version, but I recently seen Crank Bro platform looked nice.

How much "casual" riding do you do? The problem with platform/clipless combos is that they are unbalanced, meaning the platform is almost always going to roll to the bottom because its heavier.

I use the xt's and the platform is big enough that if im going to blast around town real quick or tool around with my daughter its not a big deal.

The casual riding would be going down the block to the fire house, pulling my son in his trailor and riding with my wife. So nothing to crazy. The problem like you stated is finding the clip less side up in the mountains.

I had the same exact problem.

I then went with the dual sided platform/clipless (M545?) but the platform was lacking (might as well have been using clipless without platforms)... and then when my platform cage broke on it, i decided to try the Time Atac Z.

No complaints at all with the Time Atac Z pedals.... i would've saved a lot of money if I just got them from the start :hmmm:

Those cheap plastic ones aren't any better than nothing, IMO. Those in the link Jimmy posted look like a great solution.

I wasn't going to post this because I get labeled but screw it. Lifer on spd's and inherited CB from the wife who didn't like them. I absolutely positively HATE CB eggbeaters. Stick to spd's your shoe will stay Fing put and not come out over every Fing jump log climb and rock garden you come to.JM2C...

you could try a set of 424's or 524's these are spd on both sides and have a platform on both sides as we a few of the people I ride with use these and really like them.
if you already have the spd cleats on your shoes this might be the solution..

I called my LBS and they have a set of shimano m545. He said that it's a older pedal but it may be what I'm looking for. Going to look at them today.

The M530's are great too. Enough of a platform for what you want to do with sneakers and gives you extra stability. Would pretty much work the same as the 545's but are less chunky.

I use the Time Allroad Gripper for my road bike, I like them a lot. One side platform and the other side ATAC.
