I am also a Long Island escapee (F that place - went away to college and never looked back). Wifey is from NYC-UES and whenever we're on vacation she still says she's from NY when people ask. I proudly say Jersey.
 
My wife cried a bit when she got her NJ license. She grew up out east on the island, where we met and still have fam. It's a great place to ride bikes, fish and recreate in general. F the summer people for the most part, and Brooklyn/Queens/most of Nassau, and ohhhh ffff the traffic getting there. Otherwise, I still love LI.
