Things that make you frown :(

maybe wrong here but I didn't read his post as a complain about the service received, more like a disappoint result from the parts that failed him and you had to replace with new one. Its the frown thread.

I don't think Frank would not tell you what he thinks in person either.
Well.. He left the shop a 1 star review, said he would never come back again and basically said we ripped him off. He also approved the estimate for the price of all the work completed.

He also didn't call me to discuss with me whatever his issues were.

Was gonna agree with @serviceguy before I read that. At least he got you stoned 🤷‍♂️

Double frown or double face frown. One more reminder to self to never assume the meaning of someone else's words.

Maybe you were supposed to cordially deny the bribe so he could enjoy it during the long drive home and he got grumpy as a result?

I rarely leave reviews of a business. Today's posts in this thread inspired me to leave some reviews of bicycle retailers in our state who support our community. There are many, and I will knock out a handful at a time and in no particular order. I've been a Halters customer for longer than any shop in the state, maybe even WaWa.** I found out about the place (not long after this forum was created) from this crazy hard working guy nicknamed Jdog who came out to Allaire to help us build the Steelman trail. I remember walking in the door and being struck by the sheer volume of parts that they carried. There must have been 200 stems and 150 handlebars behind the counter. The vibe inside was electric and fun. Fast forward through many years of friendship, riding and smiles, and they still peddle in pedaling with the same vigor and vibe.

In the year since, especially since working with JORBA and NICA, I have had the opportunity to visit and patronize many local bike shops in NJ. Shops like Halters, Marty's, Tenafly, Cycle Craft, Beacon, the list is so long that I rarely mention them publicly out of fear of offending folks who I truly respect. Heck, over 50% of our original NICA NJ teams were founded by, or in partnership with, a NJ bike shop. 9 teams have Team Directors or Head Coaches who are the owner of a bike shop. Every single team to this day has a relationship with their LBS, and we encourage them to make that the hub of their cycling community.

What so many of these stores who "get it" share is a desire to give back to the community while still figuring out how to keep the lights on, often in spite of that. They do this despite the industry undercutting them at every turn, retail landscape shifting to online sales/discount culture, the list goes on.

No intention or desire to get in the middle of the disagreement here, but it is worth mentioning that we have some amazing shops in NJ.

**there is no way this is true

Frank and I worked this out. We didn’t communicate as well as we might have and feelings may have been hurt on both sides.

I will offer this:

The algorithms are such that a single bad review seems to outweigh ten good ones on google review or Yelp.

Many customers only see the highest rated businesses and go there first.

We don’t pay to bump our online reputation. We could and many businesses choose to do so.

We are in fact human and we do often succumb to human errors. That said, we text each customer a complete estimate before every service and these estimates mirror what we might do to our own bikes. Not the cheapest way out but rather the best solutions. No work is ever completed unless a text comes from a customer approving an estimate.

Outside of this conversation, I always encourage friends to offer positive reviews when they are warranted and reach out to private owners if things aren’t up to your expectations. The small guys are working 2x as hard as the big companies. We don’t have a social media team, hr team etc. we just make shit happen the best we can.

Happy trails.

Sorry... i don't get it... maybe i am wrong but i didnt see Frank mentioning Halters at all.
So he gave a negative review on Google or where ever. Why bring what he said there on to the boards?
Who is calling who out?
You are right. It struck a chord with me personally and I let it get to me. This might not be the place to rant. That said there is a board connection but I won’t air it here. Frank and I are cool at this point.

If you're not going to stand up for what you say, then don't say it at all. To me it's not ok to slag someone online then come here and pretend everything is cool.

I think we are talking about 2 different things here but we can agree to disagree here and end it there. It seems the 2 involved parties have resolved the situation. There is no point of escalating any further.

This happened recently to me as well. It's such an infrequent occurrence that I actually though that I snapped the actuator until I pulled the post out of the frame.

The new posts come with a barrel for the cable, so this shouldn't happen again. They'd probably send you that part if you asked them.
Wait, what is tgff ed problem here? If you just need the little barrel for the cable head and a fox one would work I have a bag of those, I list one and replacement only came in a bag of many…if that fixes the problem you’re welcome to it.
