The Longest Day 2015

First stop will be at Flanders Bagel (mile 44)
Next stop is Six Mile Run canal lot (mile 77)
Lunch time will be near Allentown(mile 102)
After that I will stop every 30 miles for about 5-10 minutes. I need the "off saddle time" if you know what I mean.
Last year was a stop in some forest visitors center at mile 133
After that I think was egg harbor city. Then from there on it was a grind all the way tintype light house. At some point your body tells you to forget the pain and whatever else ails you and just keep pedaling. It's rather mind numbing.
All in all it was in fact one of the single greatest accomplishments I hae ever achieved.

You plan on stopping? 😉 I'll want to get the first 100 over with first, then see how my body feels about stopping. If I do it'll be for a quick refuel and not let the legs get cold for long.

I didn't stop until mile 125 or 130 or something like that. I didn't want to get caught up in the groups that stopped in Allentown so I went ahead of everyone and stopped quick a few towns over. There's nowhere to stop after you hit the State TT Course so you need to be re-stocked before you hit the deadly pines of boredom.

Crap. Just found out my ride back doesn't exist. Wife will be out of town on business. So that means I can ride back too right?

I can pack a tent and whatnot for you Ryan. We're camping in Cape May. My wife can probably get you back to Piscataway but after that you may be on your own.

Awesome Jim. That would be awesome but still trying to figure out other details too like how to get to PJ the night before and crap. At this point it looks like that weekend at least may be a no go. The wife's business trip may have killed this pooch.

I was little lucky I guess last year. Just as I hit those boring pine barrens I hooked up with 6 or 7 guys from the BCMTB club. I rode and chatted up with those guys for about 50 miles while holding at least an 18 mph pace. They wanted to stop at mile 190 at some Wawa but I knew if I stopped my day was over so I just went on and finished the last 16 miles. I haven't seen or heard from those guys since.

Sounds like an interesting ride. Considering I haven't been on my road bike at all in 2015, there's no way in hell I could be prepared for it this year, but maybe next year. Plenty of time to figure out the whole "getting to the start point from PA and then back to my car the next day" issue... Turning around and riding back the next day sounds a little too ambitious...

I also agree one would want to have at least a couple of centuries and maybe a one and a half under their season/belt before attempting this.

I pre-rode the bottom 140-Miles of the course down and back this weekend. Everything is in great shape. Chatsworth can burn in hell. I keep forgetting how far it actually is once you enter the Cape May area, you feel like you're there but it's another 30ish-Miles to the LightHouse. Just after Allentown there is a small Quickie Mart that you'll go by on the left-hand side, it's probably the fastest option for an in/out refuel.

Wow... that's quite a route. It's amusing to me how much of it I know either by rides I've done or as part of car club drives. I have to admit, though... the long stretches of 202 and 206 are interesting choices. We typically avoid those roads in our cars... but of course, adding a few miles to a route in a car is no big deal and we are usually looking for more "curvy" roads to have fun driving on.
I have some friends in Cape May who would probably let me stash a car there for the return trip when I'm up for this. Hopefully next year (2016). Twelve hours of saddle time will take some serious seat-time to work up to. Not to mention maintaining a 17+ mph average speed over that distance. Whew....

In 2013 I ran a thread called "My quest for 3000". During that year I discovered this ride a little too late but have made the entire year (and there after) my training for it. Not to say that's the only ride I aspired to achieve but was definitely a huge goal I needed to achieve. I know this ride at seem like cake to the likes of Jim V. but for us humans it may just be the longest, wildest and most challenging ride they will ever attempt.
As you train for 2016 think not about how long it is or how fast you need to do it or your pace or where you'll park the car. Think about all the fun you'll have as you make your way to the light house being driven by some super ambition to finish -- and the story you can brag about for the rest of your life.

ok - 2016 it is - but hopefully i can catch you for a bit this year, to provide some support.....

It would be awesome to have some company even if just for a few miles. Monica will pick up as SAG when the course passes through the Somerville area, probably around 6MR area.
