The Longest Day 2015

If I road biked for the next two months could i realistically do this?
The simple answer is yes, some people could. Most people probably not. That is a really ambitious timeline. Have you done any centuries? There is a big difference between a 40-50 mile ride and 80+ miles. If you haven't had any 5+ hour days in the saddle I'd advise getting some under your belt to see how your body responds. Then imagine this ride being more than twice as long and painful.

+1, if you have a weak core, your body will fight back by the time you reach Somerville
even though flat for the final 100, you won't be having fun changing hand positions every 5 mins

Was considering a double in August overseas, but my plans have changed
Might plan for one in late July locally, but will be a loop
My training target will be 2-3 centuries leading to it, with a 140ish in June

Debating doing this in June sometime...possibly on the fatbike.

Keep me in the loop if you're serious about this. I was planning to ride down saturday and back on sunday. I have enough bags and poop for us to be 100% self-supported.

So let's tentatively plan on June 20th?

I'll keep you posted. I would definitely like to do this and with company would be great. It certainly would be different on a fatbike. How many hours do you anticipate the journey would take Jim?

IDK. I can do 120ish in about 10-hours with a load. It will be faster because of how flat is but I recon 15-16 hours would be a safe bet. Plus the 150 miles back would make it 24+ hours in 2 days. On the road bike I've done it in just under 11-hours.

150 miles? Are you just riding from home to cape may and back?

Ok so I just went from penciling this in to actually putting this on the calendar. Secured a hotel room at the Days Inn in Port Jervis for June 19. Also wife 2.0 has a reservation for a B&B in Cape May the next night. IT'S HAPPENING!!! I may even entertain the thought of doing this rain or shine.

I can offer the second bed at the Days Inn. We can work something out like splitting the cost or transportation up there the day before or something.

Kevin, I'll take you up on this if it's still up for grabs. I can ride up on Friday to save my wife the trip.

I'm still not sure what my status is on this. I'll be moving the week after and it may be a bit too hectic. I'd love to get out and give it a shot. If so I'll probably roll up the morning of.

It's yours if you want it. Just split the cost of the room and it's done. Also my wife will pick up as SAG from around mile 75 on. We can hook up the day before and throw whatever you want in the truck.
