The Indoor Cyclist's support thread

I guess that is the right approach. I’m trying to extend my trainer rides to 90 minutes as I’m not doing much outdoor riding.

Doing so I find 2.2 W/KG too easy but I get beaten up pretty good trying to do 2.4 W/KG on a daily basis, was just curious why it seemed so erratic.
It’s odd. Sometimes the pacer rides are easy or seem slow and other times the can be more challenging for the same pace level. I think it can depend on the route and how many people are in the group. Smaller groups seem more challenging to me. Maybe because of the smaller draft

My first V02 workout.
Felt miserable but did all of them even at the desired RPM.
Above 100

Assuming you aren't in the TrainerRoad AI Beta, the new update that's coming is pretty damn good. The theory behind it seems to make sense and the last 2 weeks I've been training with it have been the best I've had in a long time.

Definitely not in the AI beta program.
I thinks it's been fun following structured work.
I'm following a gravel bike climbing plan. I hope is crosses over to MTB. Not real sure what program I should follow. Climbing fast is my weakness.

XC Olympic probably, assuming you want the punchiness. Though the base will be similar, the specialty phase will add more high end work which should help.

In what specific regard?

You can train your CP5 to be amazing, but your CP20 or CP60 might suffer. So once you get to the hill, you're a rock star. But everyone else got there 4 minutes earlier and you never caught them.

Alternately, you can get to the hill 4 minutes earlier, take longer to get up, and still be 3 minutes ahead.

Are you training to race? Or do you just want to beat up @Cole on the group rides?

When I was road racing there was a guy that was a great finisher. He trained for nothing but that last 1000 yards. Meters. Whatever. His training plan seemed to be 2 things:

1. Have a great finishing 1000
2. Be as efficient as possible in the pack

End of every race he was in every mix. He was training for 1 specific thing. If he lost the pack, he was useless. Might as well pack up and go home early because he turned to dust. But he was great if he made the last 30 seconds of any race.

How is the Trainer Road different from the workout plans that Zwift has built-in? I've been only doing the Zwift ones so I am curious...

One more question: is it $22/month on top of $20 zwift fee?

I'm not really sure about the first question. From what I've read TR plans are tailored to you. Zwift is just a blanket workout for everyone.

Yes two subscription required .

Zwift workouts and plans are tailored/adjusted based on ftp, but there is no intelligence that says "oh, you've ridden 200 miles yesterday, take a break today or do a recovery ride." It's fully up to you if you want to kill yourself indoors. 😂

i started to follow zwift personalized workout plan. Not overly impressed. Recommendations are a little hit or miss. Although you can toggle duration up or down from the recommendation. would be better if you could toggle effort with duration. Lots of Z2. Sometimes it feels hard. Sometimes it feels easy. should probably do a ramp test again

It lowered mine (apparently it was tied to current Threshold Progression Levels. Under 3.0 and you went down, 3-7 you got a bump and 7+ you got a big bump). The new Ask A Cycling Coach podcast they released yesterday about the theory and technology they put under the hood of this release is worth a listen if you care to.

Trying to mentally decouple my training from the traditional FTP has been a bit of a change but the workouts it's been scheduling have been just hard enough lately, which is pretty awesome. I would regularly have to stop mid interval to finish workouts. Guess we'll find out when the state thaws out.

Mine changes based on what the effort is. I do a 20 minute TT and it adds 25 watts to my FTP because of how inaccurate short duration estimates are. I use my actual peak 60-minute power instead which makes any workout you do a lot more doable. Especially longer repeated efforts like 3x20s or 2x30s.

Yep. That's half the issue...every test is flawed in their own way and unless you are a TT specialist it's really not all that relevant besides it being a ____ measuring contest at the local group ride.
