The Indoor Cyclist's support thread

I might enjoy zwift if you could strap on some VR glasses or something. But for the month I had it, it really did nothing for me. TR on my phone and something on the television that really keeps my interest seems to be the only way I can tolerate the trainer.

Like work, I multi task. Ride zwift and stream something else (show of music). I ride to get loose. I wish it was more IRL routes and looking riders but it would be very data and memory consuming to add 500+ real looking riders. Maybe one day. I enjoy to catch the wheel faster riders. That's my "training" plan and pushes me the most without having to think more.

What are the training plans on Zwift? I don't use them mainly but its about hitting targets.

I like trainer road, zwift just doesn't appeal to me. I've tried the free trials a few times and it's not for me. If I want to ride with other people I will, regardless of the weather. I don't really want to deal with anyone if I'm on the trainer. That said, if trainer road turns into zwift I'll have to find something else. I like just having numbers to try and hit or hold.

Just reading and thinking out loud. Part of the appeal of TR is there is no “just riding around”. I get on the trainer, do my workout in 30, 60, 90 minutes and I’m done.
No messing around with my virtual bike or hairdo or anything like that. Just intervals, and done. And if I done have time for the prescribed work, I pick a shorter one and hitch has a similar benefit.

Totally get it and agree, I like that appeal too... at some point don't you need to get over that 90 minute mark of zone 2? Especially for longer events, hell even standard XC stuff, There has to be value in riding 3-4 hours.

The thing with being locked into that specific endurance power is it kills me when I either want to slow my cadence down, stand up to stretch the legs, etc. Give me a 40-50w range to bounce in between instead.

That's answered a lot by their outdoor rides. Hard indoor rides during the week and do the outdoor rides on the weekend if you can/want.

I didn’t last year for 90 minutes XC races. I’m sure it helps but I don’t think it’s necessary.
My plan this year is low volume plan with 1 or 2 outside rides with one being 3-4 hours.

You can always use resistance mode and not erg.

totally see why you wouldn't need much more volume for 90 minute events, I guess at some point you do need that volume doe

Zwift might be cool with an occulus headset for about a minute. Then the headset would become a sweaty mess.

Nobody is shitting on Zwift. Is this even a serious conversation?
I made my joke above about people being niche, but I don't think so. I think most people who are using TR don't like Zwift but I don't think anyone is hating on it. You posted above how you have no interest in staring at virtual asses on bikes, but it's not really mocking Zwift.

Anything that can get you to ride inside when it's shitty out, more power to you whether it's Zwift/Netflix/TR/Combination/Etc.

I'm chalking this up to @Norm being sensitive. 🙂
