The Guitar Player Thread.

or will it become another trinket like the pager or Walkman? Time will tell.
I don't think guitar is going anywhere in our lifetime. Drummers might need to start worrying.... AI drums have gotten insanely realistic. I keep discovering all these amazing new metal bands and I look to see whos drumming and realize the whole band is two people and a laptop in their home studio.

Correct, and then they pay/sign new artists like they just did to capture their target audience.

Ten years ago the Jimmy Page/Pete Townsend Gibson models were all the rage. These have been replaced with the previously noted artists models.

The question becomes - how long does the guitar remain relevant? The electric guitar is not even 75 years old. Will it stand the test of time to make the millions of guitars produced valuable, or will it become another trinket like the pager or Walkman? Time will tell.
The problem is all the guys they just signed are old, somewhat with the exception of Mark Morton. All the up and comers, young guys like Polyphia, are playing Ibanez, Jackson, Charvel, Schecter, etc. The nostalgia thing only works as long as there are people around to be nostalgic.

Not so sure about that. Don’t sleep on the AI, if someone puts their mind to it they can develop a machine learning platform to play guitar, it’s not that far-fetched. I see it in my day to day. We’re just starting to scratch the surface of what it can really do. Skynet is coming, just not in the form we expected.

Someone created an AI death metal algorithm that is based off of Archspire's music and it has been streaming and learning 24/7 for like 5 years now.

This was a great move by Fender when they bought all of those companies. They know the Strat is going away at some point so they diversified big time. So many relevent players are on Charvel and Jackson and they still have the Claptons and such for the Boomers. They even still have the cool USA Custom Shop sticker that costs $3,500 more than the made in usa model that's made in the same factory by the same people 😛

We covered this earlier - Gibson markets to the 30-60 year old with disposable income. They are grabbing artists that were at their prime in 1990-2005.

- Noel Ghallager
- Dave Mustaine
- Jerry Cantrell
- Mike Morton
- Tracii Guns
- Adam Jones
- Kirk Hammet

Appeal to the inner youth of the aging middle class that has disposable income to do something healthy and non exterting they can do from their couch.

Agree with you except for the ages, it’s 50-70 year olds with disposable income, exactly like Harley in the 90’s when they were at their peak. Most 30 year olds consider all of the above dad-music. Tracii Guns, really?

It's not a box filled with crack.

No crack, False advertising!

Hey all. If you wouldn't mind giving my homie Angel's new single a listen and like, that'd be amazing. #supportyourlocalshredder

I hear a lot of early Satriani here.

that thing is gorgeous dude. I guess the real question is are you gonna learn his solo from Ego Trip that is just him humping his trem bar for 30 seconds?

That's probably the lamest guest solo anyone has ever done in the history of guest solos. It's almost as bad as Lee McKinney's Solo Album.

Yeah. He's a big Satch fan. It comes through a lot on the last album.

I am 39 and grew up with all that music, L.A. Guns included. My mom is 70, maybe @Steve Vai will play all her favorite Megadeath and Tool songs so she will take her dentures out 🥴

There was guitar virtuosity in some of those 80’s bands (of which I’m still a fan of many, my secret guilty pleasure), however LA Guns was not one of those bands, but that is another debate.

I read in an interview he was all anxious after recording it because he felt like the guys didn't really like it but didn't have the nerve to tell him. I rewound it like a hundred times trying to find his genius somewhere in there but it really doesn't make any sense lol.

Especially considering Scotti's solo like 30 seconds before that shits all over it.

I read that they edited the shit out of it, to the point that Vai was really surprised when he heard it.
