The Guitar Player Thread.

Tickets for this go on sale Friday 4/5. I (and probably Mrs. G) intend to be there.

Update: This apparently sold out very quickly. I intended to go directly to the Count Basie box office for tickets (we live 15 minutes away). By the time I could get there, all tickets were sold. Same with the other area dates. ☹️

What an inspiration as a young musician to listen to this record when it came out 50 years ago. Nashville's finest session musicians backing up Mr. Betts. Rest in peace....

Got sick of having to repair one of my amps anytime I felt like playing (which is why I quit playing) so I got this setup going on. Got a bunch of trial plugins from NeuralDSP that sound SICK! Will definitely purchase a couple. Anyways…I played guitar… almost as rare as me riding a bike these days.

Welcome to the 2000’s. Amps are dead unless you’re over 60 years old or have a curly mustache and a Brewery Cap.

He lets the guitar player plug into whatever amp they want with whatever guitar they want and lets them turn all the knobs and then he just runs it through a MacBook with Neural DSP
There is actually some truth to that. The live room is just for tracking drums and scratch tracks. All of those heads are patchable to a mix of cabs in another room totally isolated. Always record a separate clean track of guitar for re amping later…ie you end up hating all the amps and you run it through neural lol.

This studio is the real deal though. I learned how to cut tape there before we went digi.

Last Friday my youngest son (17) and I went to the MPAC to see Buddy Guy on his Farewell tour. Son is mostly a Bass player but has picked up guitar and been jamming with his friends and some open mic nights.

This guy (pun not intended) is 87 and still can totally shred the blues. His guest performers were Bobby Rush who is 90! And his son Eric? Guy who can also shred.

Blues is not my main thing but I can appreciate all genres of music at any time. my son really enjoyed it which was the main thing
