It's amazing what alcohol will make people do. It's why we keep our fridge at work fully stocked 😀

Everyone has a threshold in the their mind for guitar purchases. The Alexi ESP V is $6k, and way beyond mine. Even the E-II version of it (which is made in the exact same place with the same components as his signature model) at close to $3k is beyond it. Alcohol would raise my threshold a little, but not enough. Now throw in some good crack, things could go either way....

I bought it to play, but I have never seen a Korina V prior to this - not that I go looking.

The $25k prices are the Murphy Lab ones with the Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard, only 81 V’s and 19 Explorers were made in that series. Apparently the aged Explorers sold out before they were released.

This was only the second new Gibson I have purchased (I usually buy used). They were copied from scans of original 58 V’s - one of which is in the vault at the Gibson Garage. I love all the nostalgia and grew up staring at my Uncles 60’s SG he bought in 1972.
ha, just went on IG and saw this. Look at the V in the case.

I want to say sub-6k would be my all-in on a dream build. Like, to have THE Bob Jackson custom build you a Master Series Abasi is $5,500. Even my ultimate nostalgia buy would be a Satriani Chromeboy and they're under 6k. But if money was no option, I would definately buy a Gibson that looks like it was built by a teenager in wood shop 50 years ago

This got me curious, so I started clicking around on some Jackson Custom Shop options and I keep ending up between $6-7k for a custom RR. I could strip back some of the aesthetic options and probably be around $5k, but I think if I had $5k laying around I'd probably grab a Misha Mansoor Juggernaut. Misha is famous for being an absolute audiophile tone snob and his sig checks all the boxes for me.

That looks like a solid guitar all around. My "dream" build isn't available for less than a ridiculous sum, a Washburn Dime 3 Southern Cross. I like the ESP Alexi V better than the Jackson version, I prefer the specs, especially the scalloped upper frets and the pickups with the extra boost switch to go "active".

Even the LTDs are awesome. I've had dozens of them through the years and they're so good.

These literally never pop up.

The LTDs are are great. I played an $800 Eclipse back to back with a $2500 Les Paul standard and the difference was shocking. Even though the LTD had been knocked around the store for who knows how long, it was so much more comfortable to play, and sounded pretty good through the same amp.

These literally never pop up.
How long ago was that sold? I saw one for sale a year ago maybe that was like $14k, and it sold.

I know many of y'all seem to be more into the shreddy shredders of more recent times, but we lost an absolute giant in the world of guitar this past weekend.

Tom Verlaine. 1949-2023.

First travel rig test is a success. Counts as a personal item on the plane so you just stuff it under the seat with your bookbag or whatever. Using the headphones as a mini cab instead of wearing them. Definitely louder than my old Marshall MS2. Being that I don't drink and work in the bike industry where all anyone does is drink, this is a lifeline.

This setup actually works. I have tons of Practice Tracks on my iPad to Jam over and the Ultimate Guitar App if I want to learn stuff. Only thing I may look into is a little headphone jack speaker.
