The Guitar Player Thread.

Being a Gibson guy, I love Gibson-bashing lol.
Are they comfortable for you?
Maybe I'm just used to strat type bodies but Gibsons are heavy and uncomfortable for me.
I am partial to Ibanez because they are light and love their thin wizard necks.

Gibsons are beautiful tho

The neck is what does it for me. After playing an Ibanez or anything modern a Les Paul feels like a 2 litre soda bottle filled with lead. It's the guitar equivalent of an S-Works Penny Farthing. 😛

If there were an S-Works Penny Farthing you'd 100% have one...

Ironically, I’ve seen some one-off custom Les Pauls with modern hardware, frets, neck profiles, just beautiful, for like $9k!!!! That much for something that’s “modern”! It’s the equivalent of Harley finally making something modern (that electric cycle they made) but charging $35k for it. Your still not going to buy it over an R1.

Sorta crazy what's involved to have an American build a guitar that plays the same as a $600 Ibanez 😛

For me they are super comfortable. My No. 1 guitar is less than 8 pounds, has a beefy neck and big frets...which is great for my paws lol

So, new guitar day YAY! 😃 Charvel DK24 HH HT E (who names these things???).....

PXL_20230123_160809139.jpg

.....well at least it was YAY! until I turned it over and saw what looks like a 3-4" long crack on the neck....☹️

I'm not sure if it's actually cracked but it sure looks like it is. I can't feel anything when I run my finger over it or my finger nail across it, so it's finished over like that. It just looks horrible to me running across the grain like that so whatever it is I'll be sending it back to Sweetwater to hopefully exchange it for another one. Not sure how Charvel or Sweetwater would let it go out like that to begin with though.

You can even see it in the pics Sweetwater sends you before they ship you your guitar.

Other than that it's a sweet guitar (no pun intended) nice and simple. Love the position of the output jack on the back when sitting down and neck feels great, thin but not too thin with a nice rounded edge.

Sweet!! Those are so good. Me and Andy both have DK24s.

Can't imagine what that set you back. $15,000?
It wasn’t that crazy. It was the first Korina guitar I had ever seen (well V at least, I saw a 82 Moderne reissue once) and it has always been my favorite. Pre lubrication on Broadway in Nashville made it all easier to swallow - plus I had just done well selling two LP’s.

They have other things in the store that still make you feel like it is a bargain - I think these hand carved LP’s were near $30-40k

Dude.... that's epic. Is this a business move or you gonna hang onto it? I've seen them go for more than $25k on reverb. I'm sure there are rare little variances that drive that price but still...

That looks like a bad scratch, either send it back, or if the guitar sounds/plays well, ask for some money back.

That V looks sweet, I've always been a fan of V's. I really want an Alexi Laiho V. Those carved Les Pauls are super gaudy though. Those are expensive pieces of wall art, or played by those country guys where the entire band is wearing the same thing like they did back in the day on HeeHaw.

I bought it to play, but I have never seen a Korina V prior to this - not that I go looking.

The $25k prices are the Murphy Lab ones with the Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard, only 81 V’s and 19 Explorers were made in that series. Apparently the aged Explorers sold out before they were released.

This was only the second new Gibson I have purchased (I usually buy used). They were copied from scans of original 58 V’s - one of which is in the vault at the Gibson Garage. I love all the nostalgia and grew up staring at my Uncles 60’s SG he bought in 1972.
