The DIY thread - DIYourself

Remember that pool pump that was repaired with a hammer at the beginning of the season?
Well it died on the second to last day - some leaves got stuck in the intake. It overheated and pumped its last liter.
I did order a new one back then, and it was close enough in size that it will be ok until I drain it tomorrow.....
Got 15ish years out of it....

Quite possibly the longest DIY project in here…

At some point during 2020 I started cutting wood for shelving for both kids closets. The little one’s closet was finished back in 2020 before she was born, but the pieces for my older daughter had been kicking around the basement ever since.

They sat untouched for a while, then over the last 2 years I’ve been ever so slowly priming and painting them. Today I decided that a rainy Sunday would be a good opportunity to finish it off while reclaiming some basement space. I have a Brad nailer to tack the cleats into place, but didn’t feel like dragging my big compressor out of the shed and running an air hose out the window. I’d been considering a pancake compressor for a while now for tubeless setups etc, and finally decided this was a good opportunity to waste some money.

So off to depot I went, and I decided to splurge on the quiet model. The moral of this whole story is to do just that. I was blown away by how quiet this thing is. I could run it in my workshop (directly below the kids bedrooms) while they sleep. No more waiting until the next day to seat those stubborn tubeless tires.

Oh yeah, the shelves. The one above the hanger rod was there, I added the high one and some side shelves. Still gotta move the crap from the floor to the shelves

What's next? Lights weren't working in a bedroom so it's probably a bad switch. New switch installed, but still no good. When installing the switch, noticed that it the previous owner tapped to an outlet as the room was probably not wired for ceiling lights. So I'm guessing it's a bad outlet and not breaker? This is the guy who did this when installing the lights, so little confidence on quality of work ... That's not spackle, it's vinyl caulking

Changed the outlet today, still no good, before that the switch. Don't see anything else hooked to this line. Gotta be the breaker right? Nothing smells fried in the breaker box and they are not labeled. Time to play the process of elimination game and check every breaker

I consider this as a DIY project because I save money not paying someone to open and close the pool every year.

This could have gone badly meaning more $$ because this is a different pool than the one I had and this was my original cover. But with some assistance from middle son we got it covered and closed and didn’t need a new cover.

Should also maybe be in the frown section as much as the pool is a PITA I enjoy it in the summer and I hate when summer is over. 🙁

Start with everything off. Check power at the breaker on and off. Figure out where hot leg comes in ceiling, outlet, etc, at test from there once breaker is back on.

Use breaker finder to check other outlets dont go back to same breaker.

Oh....another season in the books.
there is a leak at the skimmer gasket. we'll see what type of damage that causes in the spring.

I can get this on/off myself at this point (30 yrs with the solid cover - 3rd cover)
Yes, I remembered to put the pump on after it started raining the other day....
