The DIY thread - DIYourself

In the ongoing awning install, I had to leave. They seemed to get it in the right place, then proceeded to crush the 'ridge' in the bottom cover which holds it in place in 8 of 10 spots, and it looks like they cross threaded one of the bracket bolts. To cover it, a little white caulk at the butt joint. Who would know?

On the other hand, I finished my part, running the wires out the back and mounting the led controller inside.

PSA: spend the extra for a real brand sprayer.

After years of cheaping out and replacing them often, finally bit the bullet to get something good.

Holy crap what a difference.
Spraying still sucks, but not fighting the equipment is worth every Penny.

Build quality on this one is great, comes with 4 different nozzles, and one pump up will just about drain the full 2 gallons.

Just need to see if they make an extended wand for this model.
Other than that,

Assuming they’re coming back? Don’t you dare letting these ‘pros’ of the hook…

On a different note, JORBA at work building a trail very near you (generic you, off course)…in this case demolishing though…need to buy one of these hammers, the neighbor got pity of my hammer and chisel and volunteered this amazing implement of distraction…he has no idea of the nuisance he has created for himself! Also, not the best form but I’m learning leaps and bounds and getting betterer!

I don't understand why people think caulk is the universal filler. Who ever f'd up cutting holes for recessed lights used it to patch holes. I gave up fixing this year.

I'm looking to get on the roof but the only way is to put the ladder against the new gutters. Everyone says you shouldn't but what is the alternative?

A ladder standoff,
Or wrap some towels to keep from scratching. Won't crush them

I've had this guy for a few years with no complaints.

This project is part 2 & 3 of a bigger one that started last year with the mailbox relocation. It basically involves the complete removal of 3 dilapidated steps that took you from road level to the front yard (step 2) and the removal of the stone path that went from the above mentioned steps to the house (step 3). The steps removal includes building a stone retaining wall to be merged with the retaining walls on both sides of the steps being removed. Step 2 and 3 had to be executed concurrently to source the stones required to build the wall.

The picture was taken during demolition of part of the platform in front of the steps to make room for the new wall.

That left me with a lot of gravel embedded concrete chunks, would it be safe to use them to fill the gap that I’d mow forming behind the new wall under the top soil I’ll be pouring there? I had to deconstruct part to existing wall and the back was filled with gravel (which I could source from project south side re-grading A.K.A. Step 10647 of the ongoing renovation) but I would really love to bury those concrete chunks and avoid to pay for their disposal. Is it considered acceptable or some kind of pollution?

As long as you bust the chunks down to 1" size you can use it as filler.

As per tradition I did not take pictures of the before, so I sourced a very old one from Google Maps...

Before....

...and almost done. Need to source a few spare stones for the top edge and backfill the new wall. Also need to get rid of all the concrete that I'm not going to bury...need to do something about the grass as well.

Ben building some planter boxes using pressure treated fence pickets. Got the design from Matt Peech on YouTube and slightly modified the design. Have one more to finish. First one I made for mothers day was 16"x16". The one pictured and the next one are like 20"x20"

Is there a false bottom? I think that is something I would add to mine lighten and reduce dirt.

So a few pages back I had a water problem. I hired a contractor down the street. He addressed it and some other bathroom fittings he saw was wrong and I paid him but the washer shut off is crooked, they left a mess, had to ask them to come back and nail in the baseboard. I’m glad he addressed it like immediately and but I also asked him to resecure a front post/gutter because there was not a post in it anymore. I guess it rotted away. This is the fix… needless to say I won’t use him again. But do I be a bad neighbor and ask him wth happened here and if he can tidy it up?

i use a different system for attaching gutters.
But this is std for a "just fix it" job.

i have a rivet tool - check out downspout racks and key systems.

@Patrick It’s not the gutter that bothers me. Look at the jagged cut of the aluminum and dents and the adhesive goop on the bottom with the shim? jutting out. At least try to use the same holes with the gutter straps.
