Tell me where you rode today...

might be the Thad-Ko Bridge / Mohawk river. Empire State Trail?
Yep! Did the Mohawk Hudson section from Cohoes to Niskayuna and back. Came across Lock 7 and just happened to get there for what the lock tender said was the last boat of the season. The river had been quiet for weeks until then. The boat operator said they were headed to Puerto Rico. They started from Toledo Ohio 😳

Stopped to have a drink with Frank. Gotta say, knowing what was at the top of the climb really triggered some survivors guilt.

When I worked on the tugs years ago we took a small deck barge with an industrial piece of equipment on it from NYC up to Troy NY above Albany and through the canal all the wsy to Lake Ontario. Draft limitation was 10’. Lol

There are "canal boat" rentals somewhere along the mohawk - they are two stateroom, low draft, low clearance "cruisers" -
we are going to attempt them next summer - load up the bikes, and make some stops.
Probably make it to the finger lakes.

one of them to get the idea.

That's cool. Not cheap, but when you consider it's for the boat the prices aren't too bad.

Reminds me of the canal boating culture in the UK. You can rent boats there as well and meander around the extensive canal system through England.

There are also boaters who do "The Great Loop" which could be an interesting adventure although most seem to take over a year to make the trip.

I keep threatening - the canal boat is a test run to see if we can last a week!
I follow some YouTubers who are slowly doing the Loop. I'm guessing that's what the Ohio folks are doing. A bit late in the season, although I suppose if you don't like heat Fall is probably a good time. They can probably be down to the ICW before they have to worry about freezing. Then spend the Winter in PR before heading up the Mississippi back to Ohio in the Spring. Hopefully they miss hurricane season...
