I realize the first official day of summer was less than a week ago and that we have to endure many more weeks of heat & humidity before fall arrives, but there are only 75 days until the first UCI cyclocross race in the world (which just happens to be in our backyard). Now that the days are getting shorter again, I’m going to start doing weekly CX workouts someplace convenient to me. I wanted to open it up to y’all if there is anybody else who is interested in doing weekly ‘cross workouts consisting of a mix of skillz drillz (off-cambers, running, barriers, etc..) and high-intensity laps of a short course.
At this point I’m thinking Wednesday evenings at a TBD location somewhere within a 20 minute drive of my place (Montclair area). We did a few workouts in Brookdale Park in Montclair/Bloomfield last fall and it worked out well unless the archers were shooting arrows at us (not joking). Also did a couple in Cedar Grove at the old Essex Co. hospital grounds near Hilltop Reservation which has excellent (read hilly) terrain and nearby singletrack.
I know there are a bunch of other CX practices that pop up closer to the start of the season and I may start doing those instead once they get going. For the time being, hit me up if you have any interest or know of a great location and want to join forces. Beginners are highly encouraged to join. I certainly don’t mind being the skinny dork in spandex riding in circles around a field jumping on and off a bike by himself but it would certainly be more fun to have company.
