2 and 3 are usually the same - just some are closer than others. If educated/informed, they wouldn't make the drive. There’s (generally) three groups of people that do this in Sterling.
One that’s just entitled and don’t give a hoot. Those are generally folks that think that they pay taxes so they can do what they want on the weekend. They also don’t dig or donate.
The second group is just uneducated. They don’t know that it’s not okay to ride in these conditions or don’t understand weather and how it works and how snow melts and doesn’t automatically dry by Saturday so they ride. They generally just don’t think. It’s up to us to educate them.
The third group also is a bit clueless but they get in their cars and drive for long distances to ride (45 minutes or greater). Once they’ve made the trip, turning back after is not an option. They must continue the ride regardless of the costs or time it takes others to fix it.![]()

What makes these three groups similar is they usually don’t dig or donate so they don’t really know what it takes to build and maintain trails.
Pretty true. I’ve honestly been in the same boat at Sterling as group 3. Got to the trails a little late during freeze thaw and the last half of my ride was peanut butter. It happens and (hopefully) people learn from their mistakes. I generally give people the benefit of the doubt but Saturday was a no brainer.2 and 3 are usually the same - just some are closer than others. If educated/informed, they wouldn't make the drive.
Haven’t been there but judging by my yard it will still be wet and soft in many places. Wednesday’s rain was a pretty good soaker. Will Stirling remain out of bounds for the next several days?
I was out working this morning. Trail surface is dry but soft. There’s a lot of moisture in the soil. Passing showers along with a freeze/thaw tonight into tomorrow morning will probably make it wet in the morning.Any intel on what the park looks like. I am only 15 minutes away, but would just ride up to Campgaw trail/unsanctioned trails if it wasn't good.
I ended up heading over around 1 and put in my usual figure 8 loop. Wasn't too bad, but felt the moisture in terms of rolling resistance. I thought it was pretty solid still overall. The trail heading to where you are guys are building closer to the machine build site is definitely soft heading up the hill. I did choose to bring my hardtail assuming some moisture.I was out working this morning. Trail surface is dry but soft. There’s a lot of moisture in the soil.
