Spinning/Biking pants

Okay, I hope this is the right place to be asking this. My girlfriend isn't a biker, but she loves her spin classes. Once in a while she takes an "epic" two hour class, afterwards she always wishes for a padded pant. While I know there are plenty of options suitable for being in the woods on the Mt. Bike, are there any options better suited for "going to the gym"? If so where do you find them, I'm trying to find a pair for xmas. Thanks, Joe

Pants or shorts? Go to PedalSports because it is close to you. Go to Campmor because they will have a big selection.

I can recommend two options...

One would be a padded bike short. Not a baggy type, but the spandex type with a decent chamois. I'd opt for shorts with a built in chamois as opposed to pants or tights. Reason for shorts... I've never been to a spin class where the room didn't get really hot about 10 minutes into class. Any bike shop will have them.

If she doesn't want to go with a padded short, she could pick up a gel seat cover. They work on just about any stationary bike. Here's an example... http://www.rei.com/product/686433

A lot of ladies opted for the seat cover in lieu of being seen in spandex at the gym I went to. I didn't seem to care, but that's just me.

I teach spin. I wear padded shorts because I own a gazillion of them and I would never be caught on a bike without them. However, I teach at a huge gym and can say that no one wears padded shorts except me. I don't know if women are just too vain and don't want their butts to look fat or what.

I often suggest to buy the gel seat cover that Dana referred to. If your girlfriend is truely in the biking spirit and wants padded shorts, I would suggest spandex shorts. It is hot as hell in those rooms so the less coverage is better. I'm partial to Terry clothing, and they make 'spin' shorts. I think the chamois is smaller and the spandex is thinner than a normal biking short, similar to a tri-short.

She typically wears what I would describe as Under Armour Capri style pants. My fear was the baggy padding bike shorts would be a huge turn off to her. I'll do some prying and see if anyone brings a seat cover. That might be a perfect solution. Thanks everybody

Pedal Sports has a large following in the local spin world. Call the shop and just ask what they wear. I'm sure it won't be baggies but he'll know if they go for riding shorts or not.
