Toms River Home Depot is doing a Homer Fund collection for Chris. What this means is the company matches all monies collected. Sometimes they more than match it. The store also placed an order for orange bracelets that say keep on pedaling Chris that they are using for a fund raiser. I will be going to the Toms River store on sunday to donate and try to get some bracelets. The manager I spoke to did say they are almost out of them but may be placing an order for more. Feel free to go there and ask about it.
On a side note; a few months ago I made a magnet for the back of my car that says "Drive like that's YOUR KID on that bicycle, share the road its the law"
I am having another one made that leaves out the "its the law" and am thinking of something like "its the right thing to do" or "just be nice" or to that effect. Opinions?
I have been wanting to get them professionally made for a while, but snoozed on it. This situation with Chris has lit a fire in me and somehow I want to scream to the world that we are NOT just objects in your way. We are people with families, nurses, cops, cashiers, people you may even know and like, but didnt know rode a bike. I have a great story about a contractor at a HD that was rude to me everyday passing me while riding. He would swerve (TOWARDS ME) and beep every morning. I knew him too. he just didnt know it was me. Then one day I am walking through the store with bike and helmet on and see him in an aisle. I walk past and say "Hi John" he looks at me and his eyes got REAL wide. He stammered "III didnt know" of course you didnt. But all I said was "you never know who it is, be nice next time."
