Ringwood Irene Repair Thread

JORBA: Ringwood
JORBA.ORG
Ringwood State park is open again and Jorba has begun to start repairs. Just a heads up as many of the fire roads have been severely eroded. Please take caution. For the most part, the popular trails seem to be in pretty good shape. I have only inspected 1/3 park and have a list of trees blocking trails and roads. Please report any trees down to Art: rvcc@jorba.org

You can use the map on the Jorba site to identify the location:

This Thursday work session this week will be clean up out of Lot C 4:00. Watch the hole as you come in. Also, if you out riding, any help clearing small sticks would be appreciated.

1. & 2. eroded roads
2. Webly pond overspilling ... frogs looked happy!
2.vietnam bridge lifted up. May be a good idea to stay off that.

Thanks for the update Pixy. I rode Skylands this afternoon and it was for the most part in good shape considering the size of the storm. Moved what I could as I found it. Only one (or was it two) very large tree down across the trail not far from the Halifax trail.

Yes, that bridge was put in long before my time. My guess is the 30's. Not sure what can be done, but we will look into it.

Every time I cross it I have to stop and think about the effort that went into putting it there.

The root-ball grown around it suggested it to be at least 50yrs old.

It might have be dropped there my mother nature but it looks too human made for that.

Update on cleared trails:

These trails were cleared of deadfall last night: Skylands trail, Race trail to Shepherds lake, by pass rd (baddly eroded).

Hoping to get next week: Blueberry, Webly pond, the knob.

Major trees down on shepherds lake rd. and other roads, that will be reported to the park and may not come down right away.

Most erosion repair will not be done this year, so please take caution.

We have not been up to Pierson ridge, Ilgenstein rock, double S or 6 bridges. Please continue to report large trees blocking trail on those trails. ...thanks.

OT but how do they fix the erosion on the roads? My local trails experienced this on a smaller scale and the only thing I can think to repair it is dumping a large amount of small rocks...

OT also - is there a map with all the names of these trails? Other than 6 Bridges, I don't know where anything is in the park.

In the first post of this thread Pixy added a link to the JORBA map which has the names and is very good. Also, not 100% on this but I think they dump rocks/dirt on the fire roads and they re-grade them.

I still haven't learned the names of the trails up there. I just go by color and direction, and sometimes shape (red triangle, etc).
