Rider down

7 Days

7 days from now I'm gonna toss my walking sticks. Everything is moving along well.

Never made it out this weekend, stuff popped up Sat, riding partner bailed because of the weather on Sunday. Must be getting wiser, last year I'd have gone solo.

Ahh that will be sweet. They killed me so I bailed on them the second day.

I am working on squats now and side step ups. I only have two sessions so we have kicked it up big time. I tried to make it out side to ride, but it didn't happen. my knee kills me out in the cold already.

4 days

4 days to go!

I hear ya about the sticks, with the micro fracture I couldn't put any body weight on my knee.

Been riding the trainer, just low resistance and working on leg speed. Hopefully this weekend I'll be out on the road...

I just put in 45min on the treadmill and 30 on the bike. I think it is safe to say I am ready to go. I am going to try to ride on the road Sunday. That will push it to the next level. I only got two sessions of PT left so if I have issues I want to address them.

All in all about one month off the bike isn't bad. I only did 8 of 12 PT sessions that were available to me. If I had done The extra one each week I would have been back fully by now.

Well I tossed the sticks a couple of days early. Went out this morning, truck had dead a pair of dead batteries. Between going between the car and truck with cables, then getting the charger and extension cord out the sticks go in the way. Right or wrong, we'll find out in a few years.

Went for a 15 mile ride, mostly flat just a couple of hills. Some pain, bit of pain when I walk. Guess that's to be expected.

Next PT is Tuesday.

Thank god your off of them. I bet that felt great. I wanted to go out today, but it is raining.

I don't have much pain at except at full extension bending. I guess that needs time. I got to work on my scar tissue and I still have some swelling. I might have to go get it looked at. We will see what the therapist says when she looks at it.

Tomorrow is my last pt until after the Holidays. My PT says I am back to almost 100%, I just have to work on gaining muscle back. Pain is minimal, when I start to walk, goes away almost 100% after I get moving.

He is giving me some exercises to do at home over the break, have a follow up with the Doc next week.

How you coming along, bighit?

Haven't heard from DMC in a while...

I am doing pretty good. i am not 100%, but maybe 80%. We kicked it up a notch in PT so i am going to do about 5 more sessions.

I'm still kicking over here. Finally got back on the trainer the other day and felt good. Went back to my orthopedic surgeon today, he said not to ride for at least 2 months. It's not so much the riding but the possibility of a fall. I'll have to hit the rail trails. I want to ski too, he wasn't so happy about that idea either. This winter is going to suck. The doc wants me to amp up my PT so hope to be ready to go late winter.

How'd the snow ride go? I haven't been outside on a bike since a few weeks ago, just haven't found the time. Riding on the trainer almost every night.

Made it out for a 20 min XC ski last night. Once again chasing daylight out of the woods. I forgot my brace so I had to promise myself I wouldn't do any typical stupid stuff, hindsight 20 mins was probably good. Who knows what would have happened if I were out longer.

Got my skis, clothes and brace in the car in case I happen to have time during the day to get out. I might be heading down by piggy, let him flog me about for a while.

We didn't get as much snow here in Flemington as most of Jersey. It was mostly slippery powder drifts. I had to go out and dig out the bottom of the driveway first then play with the kids. While doing that I realized that my knee didn't like the unstable ground. Even though I have a 4 inch tired snow bike I didn't feel comfortable riding it. My tear was on the inside of the knee. I figured if the rear wheel came around to the right I would have to put my left foot down. That would put the inside of my left knee in a bad position.

Coming up on two months and I only feel 80%. I have been doing tons of work on the thread mill and exercise bike. I have also started doing squats with body weight. Just not right yet. My last knee surgery was 10 years ago and I was up and jogging in a month. Now at 42 years old I don't think I am recovering as fast.

I might be going back to therapy if I don't progress any more.

Got about an hour of skiing in Thursday, broke trail on Sitting Bear and Wingdam. Once again chased daylight out of the woods.

Second road ride on Friday with the VTC Prez. 30 miles mostly flat. Easy winter pace. Knee gave some aches, couple of pops. Odd thing was my left leg would fatigue on climbs real fast, probably not giving 100% on my right leg yet. More one legged drills in my future. So far over 30 hours on the trainer, 55+ miles on road, 1.5 hours XC skiing and I still gained 7 pounds this season.

I broke 8 ribs and my collar bone 4 months ago today. I was not able to do much for 2 months but was starting to feel better. The outlook for riding or skiing was pretty bleak. My buddies offered to have me come on our yearly ski trip out west which would be at 3.5 months from the accident. The doctor didn't think it was a good idea but I decieded to go for it. We just got back from a week at Lake Tahoe where we skiied 5 days of black and double black diamonds at Squaw, Kirkwood and others with no pain or injuries. I think it was a miracle that I was able to go at all but even better that we got 4 feet of snow!
