They copied way too much from the UK version. From telling us what is going to happen "over the next ten weeks", the open stage concept to "the Stig" (and with the same attempt at growling the word 'Stig'), screaming "this is incredible" while powersliding, the racetrack on an airport, a military helicoptor chasing a convertible, and so on. Hell, the upcoming episode promo even had Foust jumping out of a POS as it was about to roll back down a hill on him - sound familiar? The "Pam Anderson" reference was a horrible attempt to replicate the "like smearing honey on Kiera Knightly" classic gem.
Hell, why not just wax poetic about how they "almost had a crisis" or that the car sits as low as a badger's badger. I would enjoy it more if they went full-bore and turned it into a parody by using terms like, saloon, boot, bonnet, caravan and naught only when reviewing American cars and trunk, hood and minivan when taking about European cars. And yes, why not refer to the Vette "Zed"-06 while your at it.
And why open with Lambos? And claiming that Dodge may hold the track record for some time going forward? What the #%!$?. Are they going to give the Stig nothing better than the Neon-SRT from here on? Why not open with the Vector, Telsa, etc.?
For a minute I half expected them to bring in a Vette and refer to it as a plastic car "built by a fat man in Kentucky." Part of the draw is listening to Clarkson bash American cars while admitting that the Vette is a blast to drive because it is so bad (i.e. "rubbish") and unrefined and that he bought a GT40 for himself.
I was hoping it would have a different vibe so as not to look like they were trying to emulate Jezza, Hamster and Captain Slow. Nobody could ever duplicate the tension, timing, etc of that bunch.
What's next? Rutledge gets a spin-off building a pedestrian bridge out of "Meccano"?
