So the last couple of weeks have been kind of crazy. Somehow, as of today, I am still alive and in one piece.
After my spill at Ottos I took 3 days off and I didn’t feel 100%, but I was getting better. I didn’t feel like complete crap, so I figured I would take it easy and I would get better. What I didn’t think about was how bad I really hit my head. I never lost memory before. I had symptoms that were going away and everything was pointing in the right direction. My (I think/thought) allergies were bothering me, so I pushed through. Eventually, 1 week after the wreck, I’m at work and my head is spinning. Worst headache I can recall. I skip out of work a little early and head straight home and make a doctors appointment to make sure I’m not going to die 4 days before my wedding. I get home and put my head in my pillow. I can’t even relax or sleep I’m in so much pain.
Sadly, for the sake of story telling, everything was normal and I was given a clean bill of health. I probably should have taken the spill a little more seriously and rested a full week instead of thinking I was superman and jump right back into crap. Lesson learned.
So The next weekend was a good one:
I got married to my lovely lady. It was suppose to rain all day, and somehow, it ended up being a sunny, albeit hot as hell day. Mandi busted her tail in order to make this happen and she knocked it out of the park. Everything was flawless and just how I imagined it would be. We have great family and friends surrounding us and made the day that much better.
You may recognize some of these people.
I did a little dancing and I think I did enough to embarrass myself just a little. Thankfully, Fred and Lou stole the show.
Celebration.
Sadly, our honeymoon wouldn’t start until next week. I think this was a good thing. We were able to decompress after the wedding, gather our stuff and actually enjoy the next 7 days by ourselves J
Saturday morning we sailed out of Manhattan to the Bahamas. Took a little persuasion from Mandi to believe that she wouldn’t get seasick on a boat the length of 3 football fields, but she finally trusted me. The weather was great, the sun was awesome, and the food didn’t fatten us up (Thankfully).
The sunsets every night…. awesome. We made it a point to see every one.
In the Bahamas, we got off and got to explore the Atlantis. My God, money must grow in palm trees out here. You know ya mans had to hit up some of the slides like a 10 year old:
The Aquarium was crazy as well. Some of the biggest fish I have ever seen. You can even snorkel in this thing.
The last night, since I told the person who booked our cruise, the ship gave us a night out for free at the fancy French restaurant that you have to pay for. They didn’t have any appetizers I was interested in, so I was going to pass. The waiter insisted I get something (since it’s freaking free). I decide to get the Escargot.
This seemed like a good idea at the time. It was doused in butter and breadcrumbs and tasted normal. I figured I conquered this mystic and expensive sea creature delicacy that only the most baller people can enjoy.
I thought wrong. The train ride back home the next morning was not as exciting as the dinner I ate before we left. Mandi kept fighting me that I didn't get "sick" from last nights appetizer. She wanted an explanation, so she got it. She immediately regret that decision.
All in all, it's good to be home. I'm sure the week off the week before a cross race isn't going to do me good, but seriously, who gives a shit. I'm sure I will still expect a lot out of myself and be let down a little, but I don't think you lose all of your fitness in one week. We will see this weekend though
🙂
