Own a Piece of Mooch (sort of)

Very surprising that they didn't do it as a private to the town or camp.
Maybe they couldn't agree on a price??

@KenS - if we sell the yacht, could JORBA pull this off?
(maybe just sell the helicopter? it needed to be upgraded anyway)

How much would it cost to build a bike park on 473 acres? Taxes are $137 a month, great deal.

I didn't think you could buy land that cheaply in NJ. Seems like an easy win for the state/county. Not like they're making much tax revenue on it.

I'm fairly sure the Highlands act would preclude building anything permanent or significantly improving what is there.

@mattybfat would know.

That address is BSA, judging by the shape BSA is in unfortunately they are selling a piece of there 1000 acres. Maybe the rt 80 tract for 5000 more townhouses because you know NJ loves Affirmatively furthering fair housing.

It's 3 separate parcels surrounding the BSA camp, shown in green on the map.

Sorry. Went a-googling for any news articles about the sale and this was the first thing that came up.

No worries, good to know the context of the sale. Doesn't necessarily mean the Allamuchy camp was involved (no idea) just the broader BSA.

The most concerning section is bottom left to center green. As a long time resident and commuter of 80 you watch the sprawl of townhouses inching further out along rt 80. This area could very well see this. Hopefully not and maybe by that time I can finally be out of the state if so. The other areas is either steep boulders or wet land which maybe only leaves a private ownership.

Looks like a big chunk of land surrounding the Boy scout camp is up for sale. 473 acres for only $1.1m. Build your own MTB park with all the stupid features you want!

This is from the listing description:
Unique land opportunity recreational or forestry use such as hiking, biking or timbering.. Suited for a non-profit organization or environment group. The property lots are accessible via the northern side of Waterloo Road and surround the MASR camp on three sides in a horseshoe shape. Physical characteristics of the property include irregular shape, heavy woodlands with strong sloping topography from south at 700 MSL to northwest at 1, 222 MSL, It is subject to a conservation easement by the NJDEP which restricts use of property. Unique environmental features include two large wetland areas that encompass 10% of the property and are unspoiled by development. Historical features include lime kilns, the East West Jersey line, and legendary Native American sites.
It’s basically a large plot of land that’s really not developable. (Sic)
