OOS MOGA

Thanks Guys! Really sucked breaking my leg and no one was around. Luckily my phone had reception so was able to reach 911. Was cruising down the Duck Pond Primer segment finishing my ride. Was going between two trees(narrow opening) clipped my handlebar and the bike flew up kind of got stuck between the trees for a split second and somehow snapped my tib/fib(shin) in half. Felt it immediately when I was done getting tossed to the ground grabbed my leg before the bones were able to break through the skin. Was on the ground laying on my side(kind of created a splint between my hands and other leg. In the woods for about an hour holding my leg. Kudos to Ringwood PD and EMT. Really professional and sincere people. Happen Thursday evening and was released this afternoon. Rod installed the length of my shin with hardware. I think about 6 weeks non weight bearing but not certain until my ortho visit. I do like titanium but not the way to get it😁. Not sure if the bike is OK but will find out. Everyone be well.

Thanks guys. I remember @liong71er and @mtbiker87 both had worse injuries than me and recovered. Mountain biking gives me more joy than I ever thought possible. I’ve been doing it on and off since the 1980s. Like many sports there is unfortunately going to be a risk associated. So is it better to sit on the couch eat and drink and fall apart or ride bikes, stay healthy and happy and occasionally break parts😁? I guess one has to do a risk analysis and figure out what combination of activities works for them… Also what type of bike riding one can do that works for them. Going forward that’s something I will have to figure out.

Is the bike ok?

Dude.. sorry to hear. But it's really just a leg... you have another one... you will be fine. Hope for a speedy recovery.

Damn, sounds gruesome. Bikes are easy to fix or replace, glad you had service on your phone, you must not have T-Mobile as it doesn't work much up there. Kudos to the emergency service teams for getting to you, but it must have felt like hours. When I had a compound fracture on my arm with bones sticking out, I didn't feel much pain, it was just numbness from the shock. In the ER, they first tried to set the bones without anesthesia, now that was painful. Keep us posted on your recovery, I'll be scheduling a no drop ride at Saddle River when you're ready.
