duct cleaning I've learned is a major waste of money, you can do just about as good as a job opening the vents yourself and vacuuming the immediate area. (don't forget the returns) Key is to get a good filter to screen out most dust and small particles like pollen. The more you trap upfront, less in the ducts and out to the air from force air systems. Usually change the $20 once every three months. But with the warm weather the A/C has been kicking on periodically, I just changed it though only 6 weeks old. It was already pretty dirty.Sounds like the air filter. You can buy the 3 for 10 dollar ones or the ones that are 20 dollars a peice that filter out more stuff, as far as I know they don't limit air flow.
The more expensive ones are probably a waste of money if you don't clean your ducts first.
