NYNJTC trifold in the office at WaWay

That sucks, what’s wrong with people.
Not enough time in the day to discuss this. But I think most of them are gone from the page now. Once in a while someone slips thru, but it's been better lately.

Anyway....

If you (meaning anyone) are on FB, please join the NJ Mountain Biking page. You can adjust your settings so you're not getting notifications of every little thing. But I think it would help a lot if knowledgeable and experienced riders post up with stuff like photos from their TM sessions and stuff. Make it a more "normal" part of mountain biking and not something "other" people take care of.

Edit: also probably a good idea to send me a PM saying who you are if you do ask to join... I don't always know board names w/real names... This way you're not sitting in FB approval limbo

Oh I'm well aware. Gotta lead some horses to the water. For triathlons we have to have to have a racing license to participate so if you want to race you can buy a $15 one day license or $50 for the annual license that you can add on when you register for a race. That type of system could easily work with a JORBA membership.
Unfortunately, plenty of racers have no idea, nor care, what JORBA is. And USA Cycling events already have the 1 day license or annual thing covered.

Hi all, first off, Thank you. Thanks to our donors, our volunteers and our members.

There are many, many different topics raised I can reply to but don't have the space. FYI, each month on the 15th at 8PM I have open office hours. It's in our Google Calendar and upcoming events page. Join and AMA.

Financials, all our IRS filings are at the bottom of our about page. I have a Google spreadsheet I use for managerial accounting, it's a check register, pro forma P&L, it tracks chapter stipends and restricted donations. It is shared with the executive committee. I can share it with any board member. Some quick notes, the vast bulk of the money we spend is on program service expenses, the programs JORBA runs to support it's missions. Chapter Expenses, Project Expenses, Tools & Equipment and Grant Expenses. This goes directly to the parks and trails you ride. With advice from Michael Vitti of CLIMB and insurance expertise from Gabby Lougo we have managed to greatly reduce our insurance costs. On the revenue side, income from donations and membership increased 49% from 2019 to 2020.

We have some challenges, membership growth is a major one. That is one of the major reasons behind us implementing CiviCRM software. In the past, donors, volunteers and members were all in separate silos, PayPal, Paydirt and aMember. We had know easy way of knowing if a volunteer was a member or not. We have not had a clear line of communication. Many JORBA chapter leads run their own mailing list, FB group or meetup. More silos. CiviCRM isn't the answer to everything, but it's a start.

New Jersey needs mountain bike only trails. Multi-use trails are a bare minimum, but the mountain bike trails being built around the world today are truly exceptional. We need to up our game with quality trail experiences that can stand head to head with VT, Bentonville anywhere.

I'm sorry if I don't reply to each response, but feel free to email me directly at tom@jorba.org or join a meet on the 15th and let me know your concerns.

as a lifelong volunteer (swim club, little league, etc) and mountain biker / trail builder, i want to help!

my annual JORBA $$$ contribution is fine but my guess is there’s some more help needed?

i looked at the minutes from the past meetings and it was 4 or 5 people attending each month. we saw the same thing at our north edison baseball / softball complex for years...no one came to monthly meetings, no one knew what was going on, so there was very little help and new blood coming on board.

then our president started aggressively tracking and mandating attendance for certain individuals, and volunteerism went way up

i’m not suggesting mandating monthly JORBA meeting attendance (not sure you want hundreds of people each month)

all i’m saying is, i’m marking my calendar for the 15th and will join the next google meet!

gotta start somewhere!

I second you for Tingley woods chapter lead

I’m curious. Why would members have two different pages for JORBA member logins?

Join page references which I don’t appear to have an ID https://jorba.org/wp-login.php

My login works via
http://www.jorba.org/amember4

I like the revamped page and LOTS of good reading here. There are always room for improvements and continued advocate for our trails. As another resident of Essex County I find continued struggles with legalization here but know I have the full support of JORBA from my emails and calls.

We are converting from the site that works to the one that does not. I know, from function to form. It's a very post-Covid style you'll need to get used to. Very hip.

Or...it'll work eventually it just takes some time.

I am curious where you even find the login link from the front page on jorba.org.

btw - one is the admin login to wordpress - the other is the user login.
i came across the same link some time ago....

i'm still willing to figure out how to export the old logins into the new system.
can't be that hard.

This. I remember the site change over, some hubbub about having to reset passwords, then could never find the login page.

There is a link hidden on the join page. But I am asking in terms of "did I miss something obvious?"

Going to meet up with Tom tomorrow and try to figure some stuff out.

I’m also old and have had an account forever. Maybe why my ID didn’t convert or just another task of many of the dry erase board that seems like permanent marker.

He is converting when the renewal time comes. It is a manual port.

When did you renew?

Last renewed on 7/17/2020. On auto renew and will most likely upgrade membership for next wave.

Manual? Worst word ever for a techie to hear.

Ok, you'll be converted by next month.

And yeah, trying to figure out the pain points so I can just drop a csv into this new system but I am sort of working on the supercollider concept right now. Just observing what happens after shit smashes into each other.

Sorry to everyone. Obviously this is of little import to most people reading this. We're trying to make it better.

In the meantime can you please just join the org. Thanks.

So I have to start with saying thank you to all the JORBA people that have made great things happen. @KenS @trailhead @Bleeder @pixychick (and spouse) @Kirt DaveVW and all the other people that have helped along the way, Norm, Pat (just cuz I know you or we're related). I look forward to a point in my life where I can take an active role in JORBA (hopefully sooner than later).

I was staggered by the VMBA compared to JORBA numbers. As I look back, I think the first org I joined was Fellowship of the Wheel in VT. I bring this up because of my motivation to join. It was a trail system that I stumbled on to but it was very boldly labeled that the trails were brought to you by FOTW and they needed support. I've been riding for a long time but I didn't know much about JORBA until I raced H2H. Even then I don't think I was completely aware of the reach they had into different trail systems.

My point being... I think making people more aware of the role JORBA has played (and continues to play) in trail development would lead to more interest. I've been riding MCBP weekly and exposed to a whole other group of riders. My perception is that there is some stigma around JORBA and MTBNJ regarding trail policing. This concept is entirely bizarre to me. But there seems to be a group of people that think MTBNJ (and by association JORBA) are out there to tell people what they can or can't do.

I love the idea of adding some signage at key trailheads. Something simple about JORBA and support. I also notice that at many of the VT trails, the trail markers include the Organization Logo - always a reminder that trail is there because of FOTW.

The WCW rides are big. We have upwards of 20 ppl regularly. I can remind everyone that JORBA has helped tremendously open this area up for riding and that I hope everyone would consider membership. We should on our group MTBNJ rides remind attendees of the same thing.
