North Jersey Dirt Epics

i ride in "silence" too, im all about dem nature sounds.

plus its easy to hear when you got a stick or something jammed in a moving part

Needs more purple squares on there.

lol mostly just notes for myself so i know what i need to "investigate"

@JimN, reconsider the bikepacking option....we can make arrangements for beer caching.

I would be down for actual bikepacking too. It would just require me to spend a bunch of money on gear, and I would also have to cover myself in Ivy Block since I wouldn't have access to a shower post-ride. I'm also looking at hitting technical rocky singletrack on these rides in addition to all the woods roads/double track, and I imagine that's pretty rough with a fully loaded bikepacking setup.

I know two mountain bikers that live behind Cozy Lake, and I'm sure I can get them to stash some beer up on GPR or meet us up there and hang out.

So Jim, when I saw you on Timberbrook you were say 5 hrs in ? Impressive. Keep up the good work.

Thanks! Probably more like ten by that point because I was just about finished and was limping back to the bat cave. Shortly after I ran into you guys, I cut through Farny and there was some type of camping event going on. I smelled hamburgers on the grill and almost fell over it smelled so good.

Part of me wants to do a multi-day trek like this but stay at hotels and do laundry. I would want to be comfortable with a fat belly and a good buzz at night while burning my vacations days up rather than auditioning for an episode of naked and afraid.

Maybe I have lost some of my edge.

Subscribed. I'll be lurking. I'm always interested to see the means by which others are connecting various venues on as much dirt as possible. I've been imagining a big loop that starts and ends north of the NJ border. I haven't planned it all out, but its brewing in my head. I know @JimN is already lurking me on Strava. Also, feel free to ask any questions, because some of what is on Strava might be me learning what NOT to ride.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I don't think I ever had an edge to begin with.

Yeah I hear you on that. I try to leave comments on my rides to future me and anyone else that might be following to make sure they don't make the same mistakes I did. When you blindly follow a random GPX file, it doesn't always work out the way you want.

bikepacking really isnt that big of a deal, and to be honest i would rather just stop riding, pull off the trail, make some food and drink, and pass out right there. making it to some establishment by a certain hour to waste time, cleaning things just to get them dirty again and talking to humans isnt on my list of priorities.

its not like we would be out there building a yurt out of sticks and making fire with a bowdrill

then again im the kind of person that would be totally ok just living in the woods wandering around on the bike every day talking to animals and eating berries and mushrooms

Stop gaying up my thread.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.
