N+1

1speed

Incredibly profound yet fantastically flawed
There's probably been other threads on this board that ask the same question, but, what the hell, I'm fairly new so I'll throw it out there anyway: how many bikes do you all have and do you think its enough?

I have five -- two new ones within the last year. I have to admit to having the "N+1" mindset. I'm thinking about picking up a new FS 29er for enduros (when I can't do it on the SS anymore!) What about you guys? How many do you have and do you ride them all? And do you want more? Need more?

I'll play. I am constantly in search of having the "perfect" stable of bikes. Currently I have 3.

Salsa El Mariachi single speed
Giant tcx1 cross bike
Niner Air 9 geared ht

Right now Im thinking of selling the Air 9(hint hint racer types) and getting a short travel full squish, something like an Epic or Anthem. I also kick around the idea of just selling the Niner frame and get a Banshee Paradox frame. I really like the looks of that bike. I also just sold my road bike in favor of a cross bike, which already has seen more miles in three months than my road bike saw in 3 years, but something in the back of my head wants to get another road bike, although nothing fancy. Something in the $1500 range probably.

All this will probably change by next week so I'll update it again then😀

I have 3 and it's definitely not enough. I live in an apartment right now though so i dont have room for any more. When i buy a house in a few years, the stable will grow.

XC: Giant XTC 2 hardtail
DH: Turner DHR
DJ: Giant STP 0

I love all three of my bikes and they're perfect for right now. When i have more room i'm definitely going for an SS and a 5-6" trail bike to properly shred places like Sourlands.

one mountain bike - a rigid SS 29er.

one road/cross bike - right now its in my basement attached to a trainer.

all I need right now

I had a small collection of motorcycles at some point, using the n+1 method. It was hard to sell my first bike, espically since its been paid off for years. Now i just limited to two motorcycles and I just have my lone cannondale. As I move on im sure i'll be adding more bikes to the stable.

Three seems to be the magic number here...

True dat

old Trek roadie
cannondale F1 hardtale
GF Rig ss(waiting for snow to melt to pick it up)

I would like to upgrade my roadie, get a Ti mtb and pick up a cross bike...but that shit just aint happenin. So I guess 6 bikes would be a fantasy.

I currently have 3 bikes:

26 HT--Cannondale Killer V '94
26 FS--Trek Top Fuel 8 '10
Road--Trek Pilot '06

I really can't justify more than 3 bikes. I had to sell my SE Lager fixie to help fund the Top Fuel. So now I use my Pilot for road and commuting. I'd love to get a 29er HT, but that would porbably mean getting rid of my Killer V, which I've been riding since '94. But realistically I don't ride it much anymore, it's more of a sentimental thing. I'll probably start looking for deal on a 29ers next fall

I have 4 some I bought used the trek I picked from the trash..
and for now it is enough I think I might swap the f7 for a geared 29'er ht but that is in the future.

cannondale f7
mary ss
mongoose ti roadie
trek 900 antelope

I think 3 is the magic number although I only have 2.

Niner Rip9 fun bike
Salsa ElMariachi rigid SS

I would like to add a Road/Cyclocross bike, but really don't have the time nor desire to ride the road. Rather go to the gym.

Whats a gym

Have you ever put some miles on a road bike, group rides are awesome and if you ride with the right people it usually involves stopping for donuts.

Five-Oh!

Yeti Kokopelli
Jamis Dragon One (SS,rigid)
Misfit diSSent Al (thinking about gearing this one...HT)
Cannondale Six13 1
Kona Stinky

group rides are alot of fun and long solo rides always gives me time to clear my head

My magic number for me would be 5.

1x-MTB
2X-Cyclocross bikes
1X-Road
1X-TimeTrial bike

At this current point in time I'm at 2.5, so I have some room😀

05 GF Big Sur
05 Rocky Mountain Slayer
01 Specialized Crossroads (really the wife's)
99 GF Gitchee Gumee
8? Univega Nouvo Sport

I've got

3 cross bikes (Serotta, Kish, Giant)
3 road bikes (Richard Sachs, Serotta Ottrott, Serotta Fierte carbon)
1 fixed/ss cross bike (All City Nature Boy)
1 road frameset (used Empella, new build project)
1 xc mtb (2011 Trek Fuel EX 8)

and my wife has one road (Rivendell) and one cross bike (Lynskey). Pics of most here: http://racerx.zenfolio.com/

What size and color of Air 9 frame? I'm looking for medium.
