MTBNJ Short Track Race #3

2 sections on the out, 2 sections back, and two in the lollipop.
This is accurate reporting!

Fun time out there today - even if i have to disassemble a bike now.....

Utah is giving me a scalpel...so it worked out.

Sometimes I'll lose a couple parts on a ride for a free weight reduction. Coming back in at 50+lbs was new. 😛

Last week was fast, but this week was... different. Each lap got tougher as the peanut butter was churned, brakes started grinding, and the bikes got heavier. Got to practice some bike control and test my tires in new scenarios. In the end, fun was had with friends old and new. I bet Norm had a blast watching everyone come back muddier lap by lap! Thanks to MTBNJ and the team of diggers for running this series, and thanks a lot to the guy who set up the bike wash station for everyone after the 'Sport' class.

Had a lot of fun racing the first time this year, ST is a good intro to the race season.
Luckily we have access to private land(BSA) and are able to put together a short track race course and use it in any type of conditions or weather. In the last 3 weeks we have seen some very different conditions on the short track course, all of which proved to be challenging and at the same time loads of fun. When the series is over the course will go back to its natural state and areas will have time to heal. No soils shall be harmed in the racing of single track🙂
See everyone in 2wks for the last ST race!

Want to give a huge shout out to all my teammates who've put in a lot of time behind the scenes to make these races happen. Thank you for getting us out there after a tough winter.

Yes special thanks to pat for the loner after I snapped what ended up being the quick link on my chain in the first ten feet of the race. You can ride my scalpel for the next one pat, but just be aware that you will never, ever race that paragon after that.. Actually you will probably set it on fire
🙂

Great times!

What's the next condition these races will experience? Locusts?

#4 - fire rains from the sky. Race unaffected.
Thanks again for another dip in the MTBNJ guess-what-you're-racing-in-today bag. A fantabulous day on the trails. Nothing like watching the mud slide back into place as the rider in front of you passes through it. I felt like Pharaoh's army in the middle of the Red Sea. Every single lap. With rocks. And fire.
Super-stoked and happy to be able to avail myself of this early season silliness/insanity. Thanks a million for the hard work. Y'all are the best.

Thoroughly enjoyed getting my butt kicked again by all the strong girls. Love being part of this crazy fun..and yes, I love mud ...

great day to race bikes!!!
thanks to everyone who came out. i really don't know what is more fun racing the course or seeing everyone else race it with big smiles on their faces.

Thank you to MTBNJ crew for another fun race! I always enjoy racing but normally I don't have fun. In these ones I do. The really good vibe and lot's of friendly faces really make you relax, even if you're racing hard.

My son came out again today, after a hard race for him a week ago, and he really enjoyed it too. He was actually racing today against another kid and they finished seconds from each other. I'm pretty sure he's going to do the next one too.

I missed Jim today (I hope you feel better soon Jim!), as I did most of the race alone--except for the people lapping me 🙂. Steve passed me on the first lap and I never saw him again so I did most of the race trying to say clear of the guys chasing me. Not easy as today I had a lot of issues. I dropped the chain twice, my gears were skipping, I had a flat towards the end--although I didn't have to stop for that--, and after the 3rd lap I didn't have any brakes. When I pulled the rear pads they were scrapped to the metal, and when I went to remove the front pads they weren't there! Somehow I lost the front pads, and the last 3 laps I had to stop with my feet on a couple of the downhills.

Good times. I have no idea what the weather will bring for the last one but I know these guys will make it happen so I'm signing up for the next one right now.

Ahh yes, FAST results, I like that too!

If my math skills were up to snuff (which they almost certainly weren't), we had 13 women start! Woo-hoo!!!

My race: The first few laps were, "Okay, you aren't setting land speed records, but you are doing okay." The middle laps were, "I wonder if I hide in the bathroom for a lap if anyone will notice?" The last two laps were, "Oh, I actually appear to be somewhat enjoying myself. How did that happen?"

Thanks again to everyone who made this happen, scored, shoveled, cheered, snapped photos, cowbelled, and heckled. The rest of the season is gonna seem EASY after all this!

LOL! I was wondering what could be next. Lava? Locusts? Smurfs?

Edit: Utah already mentioned locusts.

I was hoping you'd mention this. Like, holy crap dude!

Damn man, I thought that's what happened when we were chatting up by the bike wash! I'm glad you made it around the course safely and still managed a top spot!

Yes! I was hitting that tricky bottom with thick mud without brakes so it was difficult to control the bike.

Just for the record, Steve pull well ahead of me before all these things started to happen and I wasn't going to catch him.

i believe next week we will add snow back into the mix. not a lot, just enough. 😀
