Yes!!

But much more importanly is helps to seat the tire evenly and properly.

Skipping this part is silly since it helps a ton.

But I think the air compressor is key. I tried with a floor pump and just didn't have the beans to get enough pressure in the tyre to seat it. I event unscrewed the valve inards but still no luck. You need to be Popeye to seat the tyres manually...
