May 30th. Is anybody from here heading out to Ohio? I'll be out there Friday for a preride and then dropping the hammer on Saturday. It was one of the best 100 milers as far as quantity of singletrack last year so it should be a blast again. This is stop #2 on the NUE series of 4 for me. Less than 3 weeks I can't wait.

Yep, Im heading out there. So far I did cohutta twice, wilderness101 and shenandoah. This one will be a first for me. Looking forward to it.

Awesome. This will be my 2nd Mohican as I've done the W101 twice, SM 100 once and Cohutta twice. I'm looking forward to all those killer miles of singletrack!

Larry aka CPuncher will be out there. You may know him from the 24HoA from years past.

Well here's the short recap for now.

The race started out with dry conditions although it threatened as a few t-storms rolled through and wet down the course the night before the race. There were still the same usual hike a bikes as the steeps were unmanageable and a little slick.

I put in a nice effort off the gun to get into good position before the entrance to the singletrack. It's hard to tell where you sit because all of the 400 - 100 mile and 100k people started at the same time. So the job was to stay strong and pass when you can. The course starts off with 30 miles of the most amazing singletrack which I just hammered and had fun. I kept my nutrition and hydration on schedule and tried not to forget like the last race. Through the middle of the course there were a lot of short STEEP gravel/doubletrack climbs that just kept on going but everything that I walked last year I cruised up this year. There's a section of rail bed(~12 miles) that I got to work with 4 other guys and we absolutely drilled and kept the pace pretty hot. I was hoping to get a 9:30 this year as I rode a 10:24 last year and new the conditions would be better so a new PR would be had unless a mechanical can about. I kept on and rolled through the finish as 8:30. Finished 34th of an estimated 200. I'm still in disbelief. Everything was on yesterday. All the training and smart racing really paid off as I think I actually got to race the entire race for once. What an amazing feeling to race for 8.5 hours and not want to quit biking and list everything for sale. If you want to try a truly great 100 mile race...this is the one.

Nice finish, guys!! Then Ryan head up to SSAP the next day and hammers out a 1:51:drooling:!!!

Flashback to Ohio for a second

Hey Ryan, sorry if this is slightly off topic, but my brother lives in Ashland Ohio and called me first thing this morning telling me about these crazy people that rode in the woods for 100 miles... I said yeah I know one of them! Here is the write up:
