OK Folks... Mercer TM season begins this Saturday 3/18. You know you want to help so why not join us? We will be doing a short trail bed reroute on Blue north due to the tornado leaving a nasty widow maker we cannot remove... without cutting down 3 trees!
We also need to replace trail markers that have popped off.

Meet at the Marina parking lot 9AM adjacent to the volley ball courts.

Release forms will need to be completed. (See previous post) I have also included them here

Tools and gloves will be provided.

Look forward to seeing you!

That widow maker is far more precarious than the image shows. We looked long and hard before removing two trees that the tree top was hung up in in an effort to have it release and drop. It did not. There is not much holding it up and we were concerned that it could "drop". So it was far safer for riders-hikers and ourselves to bypass the drop zone. We may come back at a later date with longer ropes and a comealong to persuade it down... But for now there is safe passage.

April TM is this Saturday 4/15.
It snuck up on us this month because April 1st was a Saturday!

We intend to replace any trail markers that are showing wear, missing or have popped off.
Some markers are either broken or absorbed by the tree they are mounted on.
In some cases the tree has fallen or had to be cut-removed.
The Red trail starting at West Picnic to east picnic and Blue trails north of the power line are the primary areas that need marker replacement.

We have markers, hammers & nails.

So we will meet at the Marina @9:00 over near the volleyball nets. And If you haven't signed up yet
we will have forms on hand and get everyone properly signed for Jorba.

Sounds good! What do we need to bring?

A willingness to help and a "can do" attitude. We supply the materials, gloves and tools.
We remind those attending to bring there own water and take precautions for ticks.
TM is 9AM -12. Work should be completed up before any rain shows up.

Well we didn't put up any trail markers today but we did a little reroute on Upper Blue instead. Thanks to @Mick714 , Rudy, and Claudia. Honorable mention to Rocco for some help with the digging. 😁

Well there went best laid plans with good intentions. I am glad nobody was under it when it came down!
So much for it being too "stuck" to pull down. Mother Nature did the deed.
Looks to have dropped on the old trail bed (Left side) too. I'll contact Mick and get out there soon.

Perhaps we need to "adjust" the water level behind the "Dam" ...;);) Wink-Wink

Downed trees on Blue North including the "Widow maker"have been cleared.
FYI While in the area I investigated restoring the original trail route in this section prior to Sandy.
I located some of the original trail bed. Brush hog, cut-move a few trees and it's all back. TBD!

TM is this Saturday May 20th.

JORBA's theme line is:You Dig? Well thats what we have in mind - some digging.
We need to address a persistent wet spot on the Paxton Twisty - Yellow trail. The field drain - box drain there needs some excavation to hold water and prevent it from over running then trail bed. One shovel deep and move dirt with the cart.

We will assemble at the Marina parking lot @9:00AM near the volleyball courts. And If you haven't signed up yet
we will have forms on hand to have everyone properly signed for JORBA and Mercer County.
