Would a nominal fee of say $3 to use the market place help with the cost associated with running the site? The reason I ask is, it seems there are users w/ single digit posts who go there first; not that they should be discriminated against, just saying.

I think that would be a great idea, but then you'd get a lot of issues with how to get the $1 across the wire. Funny you should memtion the whole cost of running the site, as it's just about time to think about the whole fundraiser again. Stupid economy.
 
if you do it, make it like $3 -$5. Most people are selling enough stuff or one more expensive thing that $3 won't kill them.

While paypal fees suck, couldn't something be set up that way?
 
Make sure by accepting money for that service you aren't also accepting responsibility for the sale if something goes wrong. We all know when you get pwned on ebay you go crying to ebay. I doubt they want to deal with that headache here.
 
It could be a cost to post at all. $3 for the right to post anything you want (within board guidelines).

I've posted plenty of ad's to the classifieds section here. I always give MTBNJers first crack and a better price than what I ask elsewhere. The thing is, I'd say MTBNJ accounts for only around 10% of my actual sales. Probably because I list a bunch of odd-ball stuff and no 29ers 😀

knowing that most of my ads here don't result in sales, I'd probably not post to the classifieds if I was going to pay $5.00. On the other hand, I've made random donations to the site through my paypal and would happily do so again; particularly if asked for a specific amount. I think a fee related to a classified section with such a relatively low exposure would damage the classifieds... Just sayin'
 
it does suck that some peoples 1st post is to try and sell something, but my attitude is buyer beware.

As far as fundraising has the idea of a MTBNJ bumper sticker or stickers been discussed. Alot of times when i'm at allaire and i see a guy getting his bike off of his car next to me I think if he had an mtbnj sticker on his car it would be easier to strike up a conversation. "whats your screen name?"

This is a great idea....a magnetic bumper sticker for me though. :popcorn:
 
if you are looking to do fundraising, why not make it fun with a contest of sorts? i really like the idea of MTBNJ.COM stickers. so maybe a "Design a Decal" contest? winner of the contest obviously gets their into a decal and than you can sell them as a fundraiser. theres tons of people on this site and i sure wouldnt mind docating 5 bucks for a decal. just an idea.😀

yeeaahhh...i like the idea of a decal, like the one at the top(current logo). I'm kinda a conservative guy and wouldnt put a puking unicorn on my car, even if it is for a good cause. stay conservative with decal.:popcorn:

I was on F150.com or something like that and needed like 10 or so posts to get pics up, just kept bumping a deserted corner of the site til I reached the limit. At least a buck will help the admins do what they gotta do on a daily basis. IDK, just a suggestion.
