Anyone from the site running in or volunteering at the race this weekend? My mother is running in it and my wife and I are volunteering to ride our bikes along the course and keep an eye on the runners. I was just wondering if I might bump into any fellow MTBNJers.

Does the full marathon go on the same time as the half?

yep, they go together off at 730. probably twice as many running the Half as the Full. I'm worried about the weather!

You are crazy. 😀

I know I can finish -- it's my time I have no idea about. I've done a few 20-mile runs this year and have put in half-decent training with around 35 miles a week for 4 months, but whether I go 7:30 min miles (3:15), 8 min (3:30), or 8:30 min miles (3:45) is anyone's guess. I'd love to beat Lance's first time (2:56), but that ain't happening.

I'll miss being at Waway this year for sure. Lots of luck to Dave, Rob and all my cycling friends -- I'll be back next year. I'll post a writeup of my first marathon next week.

Running it as a relay with some friends from my job. Weather looks to be a bit wet. Nothing that a camelback full of bloody marys won't fix.

my wife had a question - she's never run such a long distance in the rain - what are you guys/what do you do to prepare for wet rainy conditions?

My wife ran CC for Rutgers and I would consider her an expert runner...She just told me there isn't much you can do when it rains ...She said it is the feet that will possibly suffer the most (blisters from the water in the shoes)....Hit your achilles with body glide I was told...
This from someone who ran 14. Marathons

right on - thanks. i'll pass it on. she's worried about her feet, but the weather has turned out pretty nice, hopefully it'll hold for tomorrow morning.

Great Job

Congratulations and a great job to everyone who ran today. Pittygirl and I were out there biking the course and everyone looked like they were having a great time despite the rain. This was my first experience at the Long Branch marathon and I was impressed to see so many fans out there in the rain cheering on everyone who ran by them. It was a great time!

Were you two on a Rocky Element and Scott hardtail? If so I saw you somewhere out there, maybe around mile 8 or so. Those were the only cool bikes I saw while running.

race writeup to come. i rocked it.

yeah that was us, everyone else was a roady. I've never ridden a road bike but those streets had a lot of holes and cracks, those bikes must have been bouncing all over the place. Couldn't have been comfortable!
