Lewis Morris Trail Building is BACK!

Trail Building and Maintenance is BACK at Lewis Morris!! After a year's hiatus for various reasons, we're going to put some TLC back into Lew Mo. This year we plan to build a snaky new section of trail on the yellow loop, along with various other maintenance items. First date is 6/20, plan is to start work on the new section of trail.

• Note for High Schoolers: If you're looking to beef up your resume before applying to colleges, this is a great way to earn community service/volunteer hours.

• Note for Racers: This work is eligible for PayDirt points.

Where and when to meet: Sunrise Lake Boathouse by 8:00AM sharp on Sat June 20th. Address is 270 Mendham Road, Morristown (about 3 miles west of Morristown center). Enter the main park road and keep making right turns until you get to the Sunrise Lake Boathouse. After meeting at 8:00, we will drive (caravan) to the interior of the park, close to the work site, so that we can begin work at 8:30. We'll be done by 11:30. Steady rain cancels.

What to bring: Bring bug repellent and wear long sleeves/pants if necessary as we will be working in the woods off the current trail. No tools or gloves needed, these will be supplied, as will water and snacks.

Requirements: All volunteers will be required to sign liability waivers. These will be provided at the trail date.

No worries, family comes first.

We're putting a new section in mid-way along the western stretch of the Yellow Trail. There are a bunch of sections of the park that need re-routing, including this one. Plan this year is to get some new section in as re-routes. Next year, assuming good traction with MCPC, I'd plan to seek permission for net new sections.

^^Thanks Steve, yes I'll post up the next dates. We typically do May, June, Sept and Oct (July and Aug a lot of people are on vacation), but I'm going to try and squeeze in a July date and will post up.

Decent turnout today and we got a lot done! Many thanks to the crew, in particular Jason G who spent a fair amount of time removing three widowmakers that were precariously perched above a section of trail we were cutting. Still much more to do before we can complete the new trail, so I hope those of you that enjoy riding Lew Mo will join us next time!
