KVSP Race Course

At last year's race, besides the bear on the course, the promoters mentioned something about poison ivy. Is there a lot of poison ivy along the course?

Just don't go off course like last week and you should be good 😉

It is debatable as to whether it was PI or something else. Shortly after my preride there last year I had these things on my legs that were super nasty and even left a few scars on my calfs. I never figured it out for sure but I think they were chiggers.

I remember that thread. I'd say they were chiggers. Throw some DEET on your legs.

If you survived the poison ivy at Stewart, you shouldn't have anything to worry about here.

...and that was me that ran into the bear last year.

I remember hearing some bear in the woods at Andover 2 or 3 years ago while pre-riding before the race.

Since I see at least one bear every time I ride at Mahlon, seeing bears are like seeing deer to me know.

The bear was standing in the middle of the trail during the race last year. It was bigger than me, so my teammate, who was right behind me, decided to wait until if moved off, or at least headed away from us. Luckily it did. I think the generator at the finish line displaced the poor thing.

Bear on the trail

On thursday night there was a 20lb cub on the trail on the return side in the back by the airport.

Awe I hope I get to see a bear, they are so adorable! When I ride here in NYS I always stop and talk to the deer, I asked this deer yesterday if I could hug her and a kiss ... She looked up, stopped chewing on her grass and just looked at me! She was only like 5 feet from me, she musta thought I was nuts!

RC ... 🙂

I came across a BIG bear right in the middle of the trail at KVSP this evening. I rounded a turn at a good clip and there it was just like 30 yards in front of me. :scared: Luckily, a side trail branched off right there, so I swerved over to that trail without missing a beat. After putting a little distance between us, I stopped and watched it hustle off into the woods in the opposite direction - it was apparently scared too - which is understandable since I'm such a huge menacing beast of a guy. 🙄

Wow, I am glad I had my "accidental bear bells" on my bike yesterday when I pre-rode.

*Accidental bear bells - Improperly installed new brake pads, that were dangling out and jingling against the rotor. Between that and the skipping worn cog set, I was pretty noisy. 😎

By the way, the course was in great shape, and looked to be fast. It should be a real fun race.

I rode kvsp thurs and no bears on the trails, however, on my way home I almost hit one crossing newton-sparta rd. Ran right out in front of my car.......big one too.

i'm going to try my best to get pictures that are much different than what in normally supply.
i try and catch the spirit of each race, which is usually pretty damn hard to do with a closeup of a rider, but i try. i'm always open to suggestion also.

Good luck to all who are racing tomorrow. Just picked up a set of Saguaros. There much better rolling than the nevegals I had. I hope they can help me pick up a min or two.:getsome:

Try???
