Kush's semi-training thread

The break was caught on the 2nd half of last lap. I think if you and I got in it, we would’ve been clear. I had the legs. Just like with the wasted leadout, my mind just fucks me over on these things. One of these days everything will come together though. Otherwise, I may just give up racing altogether.

No no no, I got this all figured out. Things really clicked for me yesterday for some reason. Just stick with me and we'll get to that magical cat 3 land. Then we'll get our asses handed to us but hey, whatever doesn't kill you.

You know the Medford race has a 4/5, then a 35+, then a 3/4? You could get 3 races in 1 trip. I don't like corner #4 down there but I might just give this triple a whirl. I'm putting some ducks in a row to try and get the 25 races upgrade and that would help. Average speed at Medford last year was 21 for the 4/5 and 24 for the 35+. There's a hill in there though, so it's not flat-flat.

Really, I have to agree with Jim. These are race bikes. They are not steel frames that are meant to last for 50 years. The warrenty system is kick ass. With my honda motocross bike...the second it left the dealership....They had me start it. Once it fired up, the warrenty was over, no matter what. Frame split in half or the engine exploded the next day, too bad.

I like hilly crits. Ok, I'm in for the triple. We will hurt in 35+, and then just die in the face on 3/4, but as I like to say, whatever doesn't kill you, may still break your carbon bike.

For real. And Fisher does have the warranty replacement thing down to a science.

I'm just bustin your balls but seriously, you guys haven't had any warranty issues so there's absolutely no reason to change a successful formula :getsome:

for the record, i'm ok with carbon road bikes. i think i'd really like a ti cross bike with the same geometry as my erwin. but does that even make sense?

and kush, you can use norm the same way jeremy did at the SSaP last year: wind shield.

yes, i went there.

On a serious note. These plastic bikes are designed to be RACE bikes. Like for the fastest guys in the world. Those guys also have a pit lane where they can fix and/or replace their stuff if they have an issue. Durability is the last thought during the design of a carbon frame. It's not supposed to last more than a season, kinda like an F1 car. You wouldn't take an F1 car and show up at a rally and expect it to get too far would you? Bikes are no different, despite what the marketing departments of these companies want you to believe.

I really need one of those plastic bikes then, I could get used to a new frame every year 🙂

They really don't give the customer that much BS when a frame gives way like this? As long as they can prove it wasn't due to a crash, They just send you a new one?

This makes me want to sell all the bikes I own the get one, just so that when it does crack, I can have a new one, no questions asked.

That 35+ was the only race I've ever popped off the back. Bill went first, then I followed maybe 2 laps later. But we rolled in with the pack and it counts, because Paula doesn't really check that kind of stuff.

It's not hilly but has a small dip in it:

Doesn't look like much, but that dip hurts going back up to the S/F.

The hard left is the SE corner of that loop. You're blazing downhill then you dip into that 90 degree left hand turn. No surprise, that was a field day for the LBS down there coming into the last turn on the bell lap. Had to be $5-10k of damage in 1 fell swoop when 1 guy swept across the road and took out a wave of people.

Utah is expressing interest. Might be able to get Bill to commit on this. We did it last year. This is an early day. But the 3 races are over by 10-11 I think.

Jim V and high gear are doing their part to make this process smooth for you guys too. You could have a totally different experiece from a different shop. It is no coincidence that there is no gary fisher brand any longer, just a signature line, that says something. What, I am not sure.

Jake, my first mtb was a fisher. Yeah, the dude created mtb and is a visonary or whatever. Like envisioning how much acid he can do before his brain just leaks out of his ear. I really just think it is funny how you like them so much, kinda like your obsession with Trek, i.e, the most ho-hum brand out there.

When it does crack you need a back-up while you wait for replacement. The Superfly is a great looking bike but dealing with warrenty replacements is a hassle...even free ones.

Ilya I have my cannonldale(al) flash you could borrow for DH. Going SS in geared class is too much for this one. Between me & Kirt you should grab someones to borrow. So you have a choice between Al or Ti.

you know i want to throw rocks at you right now, right? 😉

if you can get me insane-o deals on a ti road or cross frame, by all means let me know and i'll sell my ho-hum bikes.

kush, you're welcome to my niner if needed. SIR9 in a MED. actually, someone should race it. parts of it have already raced there once this year (via utah at the SSaP).

If this doesn't work out, I'd be more than happy to put your RD in my back pocket so you can say that more and more of your bike has been raced.

I think we hear about them cracking so much because there is a million of them out there.

No smiley face or maybe the wink emoticon? I think we hear about them a lot because a lot of them crack. You've broke how many? All you're doing it riding it. Yeah maybe hard but it is a MTN bike. Not like you're doing drops or jumps. Same with Iyla. He doesn't even ride his nearly as much as you & lots of times it's down south w/o the knar. Should be more reliable then that.

Matty's friend is selling a SF100 at a really good price. I thought about for about until I read Iyla's STB. No SF for me.

Fixed. Your right. They crack way way too easy. I have nightmares of carbon splinters in my grundle.

Did I mention how nice they ride?

I was just thinking about this...maybe Jim knows the answer....But You current SF is an 09? So it has a standard headtube and BB. I think the 2011-12 use a BB30 set up and a tapered head tube. Which your original fork and crankset wouldnt work with. So would you have to upgrade everything?

he's got a 2010 I think... (Red, white, black.. same as me) And i'd bet they give him a 2010 as a replacement...

My 2010 SS just got replaced with a 2010.

Good question though. I bet they give what they give and its on you to buy replacement parts.

I just had my 10 Paragon frame replaced under warranty. They shipped an 11 frame along with the press fit bottom bracket and a new headset so I could use my straight steer tube fork in the tapered head tube frame.

My old crank and fork worked fine with the new parts. I was very happy.
