Hi, my name is Kristen and I'm new to mountain biking. I live in south Jersey right outside of Philadelphia and ride a Trek 3 series. I attended the jorba festival and had a great time, despite having a tough novice ride! Everyone was really helpful and I look forward to more group rides in the future.

It's definately tamer than the Wiss. Not nearly as much up and down, but still a good workout and tight (somewhat overgrown) singletrack.

I just looked and it seems that the Pennypack ride is not labeled beginner anymore. It's Wednesdays at 6pm. There is a beginner ride on Tuesdays at Core Creek at pm too I believe. Core Creek is probably about 45 min away though.

Check out meetup.com there's a Philly MTB group and a SJ group which are both very beginner friendly.

Being a beginner is no problem. I've brought a few of my friends out that have wanted to try riding and have never left anyone behind. I remember what that was like when i started.
