Hi all...was recently made aware of this forum by rng1, whom I met on the road in Nyack (where he was awaiting the infamous "Rocket Ride").

Was really big into mtn biking in the early-mid 90s, doing a couple of NORBA Sport-class races and having fun at South Mountain Reservation before they banned mountain bikes. My first mountain bike was a Bridgestone MB-4, and I generally lived by the principles expressed in the awesome Bridgestone bike catalogs from that era. Eventually went "upscale", getting a Fat Chance Yo Eddy (from the last batch built in Somerville, MA, before they moved to the Serotta facility in NY State)...and still ride this bike today. I live in Bergen County now, but grew up in Princeton, so I have also spent a lot of time riding Mercer County Park. Also spent a lot of time riding Killington back in the day...still have a Killington lift-sticker on my brake cable from 12 years ago...!

Am admittedly more of a road weenie these days...age and family commitments will do that to you sometimes!...but have made it out to the trails a couple of times in the last few months and am hoping to do more....

So first rule of knowing RNG1 is..

Regardless, welcome. Maybe one day I'll show up and get trashed at this Rocket Ride.

As both a fellow Bergen Countyite and friend of Robs, I urge you to use discretion when posting on this site. Trust no one and mind your belongings.

Welcome!

Hey man, glad you found it here. Good talking with you last week. Forgot to mention that if you mention my name here you instantly lose credibility😀.
Maybe I will cross paths with you again in the morning when I head back up that way. I will also be trail worthy again pretty soon so hopefully we can get it together.
Welcome aboard.
BTW you will never see Norm on the rocket ride, Ben maybe.

🙂 I am planning on giving the Rocket Ride a try sometime soon, so maybe I'll see you there...

Those old Fat Chance bikes were always the shizzle! Didn't alot of those guys go to Indy Fab?

Yeah, basically what happened was that Chris Chance sold the company to Serotta, then fired everybody because Serotta was going to build all the Fat Chance bikes (which is why I pointed out that mine was one of the last built in Somerville, MA...after that year, they were all made in upstate NY by different builders). Then all the former builders from Somerville decided to start their own company...and thus was born Independent Fabrication. Not sure if any of the original guys are still there...lots of ex-Merlin guys in that company now...but the IF Deluxe is still based largely on the old Yo Eddy design...

Welcome.

I was in your neck of the woods in Harrington Park this evening for house warming at friend's home. See you around Piermont/Nyack.
