Jshort’s bike thread

It seemed to build in your story as the decisions are proven out. Do you get rattled if you perceive a choice as a mistake? Or can you dismiss it while racing?
I don’t really think about much once the race starts. Unless it’s something I can fix, what’s the point. I’m pretty good at avoiding race setup or gear choice problems. It’s taken many years of racing to get here though.

Someone suggest me a rear tire for my gravel bike. It’s a Pivot Vault and I have a 2.25 racing ray in front and it rips.

But I put a 50mm gravel king in the rear because that’s all I had laying around that would fit. It’s not enough grip and the rear end is washing out too easily. I put an insert in and only had 18ish PSI and it still wasn’t enough grip.

It looks like the max that pivot says I can go in the back is 50 mm or 2.0 inches. But I ran a 2.1 thunderburt no problem

I also need some cross country pedals on this thing because the road pedals are not cutting it in the single track.

I just ordered a pair of the 2.2 Ikons and want to mount them up to see how wide they actually are on gravel rims.
Yea that’s the key. I was looking at them but they may be a little too wide.

You already know what the answer is
I’ll probably just order another Thunder Burt. I hate buying them though. I feel like they were the crap tire that nobody ever wanted and then all of a sudden the gravel bois discovered them and schwalbe could charge $100 a tire.

Edit, although if they came in a 2.4, I’d try it.

Well, that sucks. It's the tallness that makes the tires not work. 50c Tracers are 52mm wide and the Ikon 2.2 is only a 54 but it's probably 5mm taller so it won't clear. 2.2 Renegades are 56mm but about 7mm taller than the Tracer. Do with this what you will. On the plus side, the Tracer is basically an Ikon.
