Jshort’s bike thread

Congrats, I feel like you are the last one carrying the MTBNJ racing team torch. Or maybe the only one actually recapping as it is clear you also won the MTBNJ recap game for 2025.
I need to have something on my calendar to work towards. That’s a big part of why I enjoy racing so much. I’m already looking ahead to see what may work out. I haven’t rode since this race and I’m starting to get antsy.

Regarding the recap, I’ve always struggled with how I thought it should read and what I thought I should talk about. This time I just thought about the little details I obsess over. There’s a ton of them…

Can I get you thoughts on confidence when you know you have covered your pre race 'details'?

It seemed to build in your story as the decisions are proven out. Do you get rattled if you perceive a choice as a mistake? Or can you dismiss it while racing?

I got a feeling this obsession is what it takes to win/podium at that level.

Good recap and congrats.

Whole Enchilada at the Whitewater Center.
dude its such a shit show. WWC needs someone like norm to run the race.

its pretty much a timed ride, you can leave at whatever time, and the timer starts when you cross the start line, and ends at the finish line. kind of like a fondo. so you could have left at 9am, were the first one back and thinking you won. then at 4pm, someone else runs a faster time and you lose.

they dont mark the trails well, they zig zag so much and its so easy to cut the trail. its cool that they do "all the trails" but with how they are intertwined through everything, its a disaster. sometimes they have two way traffic and you're running into people on narrow ass trails.

its almost like a AA baseball league "race" versus any normal event in the area. its a shame, really.

Hey, I heard my name. Is this related to the 14 year anniversary of the Triple B text?

What is WWC?

Also, so as not to derail the effort @Jeremy put in here...have you considered any of the big ticket events like the one in Bentonville, or things like Rattling Creek just farther away?

For me, one of the reasons racing lost its luster is that the courses were always the same. MTB, CX, road. Always the exact same year after year. Doing RC last year was fun, as it gave me exposure to a world I was unfamiliar with. While that was just an event for me, you can take or leave it as an event or a race and ride something totally new and maybe even exciting.

You may have just saved me a bunch of $$ and a weekend.

I was looking at the course wondering how they'd mark that whole thing as it does look like spaghetti on a map.

feel free to paypal me it

its cool and all, but if you think its a real "race" you'll be disappointed. If you want to treat it like a guided ride/event of each trail at WWC with some weirdly placed aid stations, it's probably still worth it. i think that is how they should market it... maybe they do now

Oh. I guess I'll sign up now, thanks.
