Canadian Road Show '25 - Day 12: Post Work Bike Jaunt

"What is a jaunt? I don’t care what the internet says. To me, a jaunt (as it pertains to biking) is one single moderate hour of bike riding. No more, no less. Ok maybe less. I suppose 40 minutes would qualify as a jaunt. 2 hours would not. I’m not sure what 15 minutes would count as but we’re definitely short of the epic realm at that point. Here we are, in a place not home, which allows us to bike somewhere different once the work day ends. Today we jaunt."

I would normally let this go, but what kind of freaks are you guys that you don't eat your strawberry shortcake with red onions?

Canadian Road Show '25 - Day 13: Early Morning Humidity Romp

"Yesterday was a jaunt, and today is a romp. We’re going to work our way through the tangential dictionary before the end of this trip. Though if I’m being honest, today wasn’t a romp so much as a slog in the early morning humidity of the Tremblant trails. This slogging romp left me tired most of the day, so work was a chore. It became even more of a chore when we had an all-hands meeting only to learn we weren’t getting our mid-year bonus. Maybe it was more of a Womp Womp than a Romp."

Canadian Road Show '25 - Day 14: Commence the Disassembly

"Today, the 14th day of the 17 day trip will likely prove to be the least memorable of the entire 17 day span. Almost nothing of note happened on this day, other than a few dog walks, a coffee shop run, some work, and the departure of Zac and his friend Jeff. That said, they can’t all be winners and today was just another day."

Canadian Road Show '25 - Day 15: The Last Hurrah Bike Ride

"The Last Dance is a great documentary of the Chicago Bulls under Michael Jordan, which has nothing to do with this blog. Today was the last day of working from Canada, the last bike ride at Tremblant, and the last full day at the cottage. We needed to tend to a few things on this, the last day of the Tremblant Stand, before we could call this leg of the trip complete. Today was our last dance."

Note we are back in NJ now and the above is from Friday. I have 2 more then I will go into a shell for a little bit while I try to unwind all this food.

Canadian Road Show '25 - Day 16: On to Montreal

"Today we move from the cottage in Tremblant to the condo in Montreal. The day spans a lot, starting with a domestic morning followed by a drive to the pure vacation of city relaxation. A good lunch, a few dog walks, a great coffee shop, a Caribbean festival, and a great dinner put the cherry on top of this final full day of the Canadian Road Show."

Canadian Road Show '25 - Day 17: Reflections at the End of the Road

"Every journey ends. After 17 days of (mostly) wandering around the province of Quebec, we head home and call it a wrap. This was a dry run to what life might bring us in 3 years when the kids are out of the house, yet we still need to work. Roaming around, working from the road, living like a gypsy (that needs a shower and air conditioning and a comfy bed and the occasional overpriced meal and OMFG craft coffee!). Then at the end of it, reflecting on the trip as a whole."

And with that, we are done. I do look forward to doing something like this but for 4-6 weeks. Soon...ish. But not soon enough.

My Amplifier Goes to 11

Been a bit. Been thinking recently if I should sunset this blog and start another one. I know it doesn't really matter. While I like the title of this one, I almost feel like it's time for the, "How an Aging Former Bike Racer Fades into the Sunset with as Few Aches and Pains as Possible." Something like that. It doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. If I do that, I'll need another title.

We decided to go to Spain this fall. Elmo Shrug.

This year has seen a dramatic drop-off in my mountain bike riding. With the work trips having dropped to 0 per year, I've lost that monthly boost of 3-5 rides I would get when I traveled to NE for work. On one hand it's a little disappointing. On another, I also acknowledge that I'm moving into a different phase of life. I spend more time than ever being active. But that takes a lot of different forms these days. In the past it's been more or less biking as the first, second, and third activity options. I feel pretty good, save for the aches and pains and whatnot.

Life will be different for the next year or so. While Zac is back at PSU, Julia has decided to not return to Ohio. In the end, I don't think she really loved the state, the vibe, and being so far from home. She has transferred to RVCC and hopes to move on to Rutgers in a year or so. This saves me a metric shit ton of money over the next calendar year. Have I mentioned we're going to Spain this fall?

Been meaning to get this going again. And here we are. I don't think I'll start a new blog because really, who cares? But I do want to add to the blog-o-sphere again. I do write on the travel blog which I don't always share here. A lot of times it's just for myself. For the bigger trips, like the 17-day Canada foray, I felt it good to share,

We'll be going to Canada again this coming weekend. Then I think 1 more Vermont trip this fall before heading to Barcelona & Madrid for 8 days. They say the perfect vacation is 7 days. Well my amplifier goes to 11.

Also, we were on a boat last weekend.
