Strava is a great idea to post rides but not track the group members.

Why bother tracking members, we know who we are. More data means more work. After 3 rides together I usually can place a name with a face, your mtbnj avatar and whether I like your company.

Ur only the second lady willing to ride OOS. Whatever happened to what's her name... It's interesting that females often bring goodies whereas guys don't to rides. Max once bought empanadas and it was awesome. I digress...

I think that a moderated thread with just the rides wouldn't be a bad idea.

So it seems like a path forward would be to kill strava, post rides like before, but keep the rides post clean of BS, Or keep Strava to list the "offical" rides, and maybe close the group, send invites to those actually show up to a ride, to weed out the ones that join but never show.

My guess is that half the ride leads will cancel, so far it's trending that way. I'm fine if someone is a mtbnj member to join the Strava group for notifications. Weeding is work, just keep our area tidy and I couldn't care if the other parts get overgrown.

As someone who almost exclusively rides alone, I thought it would be fun to join up for one of these rides.. but now I can only imagine what it’s like every time an OSS’r hits a fork in the trail...
All: which way should we go?
Rider 1: some else has to start doing the work of deciding
Rider 2: I will what do i need to do
Rider 1 the work! more people need to put in the work, I can’t make these decisions forever
Rider 3: let’s make a spreadsheet recording the number of lefts and rights, when we make too many rights we will go left,
Rider 4: unless that bothers someone then we can consider a right
Rider 1: would someone do some work around here
Rider 5: will this show in Strava, how can we record this in Strava, did I get admin rights to put in Strava
Rider 6: can we vote on it
Vote is 3-3 tie
Rider 6: let’s decide on a super voter their vote will count twice
Rider 1 who wants to decide who the super voter is, shit someone else needs to decide this

Guys lift heavy objects and fix things that I cannot. Cupcakes earn me help if I have a mechanical on a ride 🙂

You should have been around when I organized the jorba stuff years back. We had food (and I mean food!) at every ride!

1trackmind: I think this was just a group of good people, trying to make a good thing work for all good people. Probably too many cooks (remember that youtube video?) The 5 of you OG people should have probably just had a private convo and filled everyone else in. It's been pretty entertaining to read though.

If you guys still need help, I'm a consultant and can offer my services as a retainer. We'll just need to vote on a focus group to determine the 3 intermittent leaders who will choose 5-10 administrators to serve as a board of trustees to oversee the ride posting administered by 17 entry to mid level rideployees.

This. You don't need park leaders. I ride new parks solo all the time - the only downside is you might miss some "off the beaten path" trails

Ok this where I get lost. What did Walt volunteer for? I don't understand if I post a ride on the thread what does that entail other than me posting the ride and others reading it? Does something happen to the post that Walt has to do something for it to post and be read? Help me here.

People tell me where they want to ride and I post it on the first tab. Things change, let me know and I'll update. I'll send out reminders a few weeks in advance if I haven't heard from the coordinator for an upcoming ride. If I don't hear back week of, I take your name off the week. Sure more things come up from time to time. But if a few find this format useful, good, if not I'm cool with that

You have made your self part of the community, you know what we're about. It's cool to bust each other's balls but when someone is shitting on the group never having been on a ride or getting to know any of us that's not cool.

Maybe I'm stepping out of bounds but frankly I don't give a shit.

@TimBay is an example of someone who hasn't even ridden with us but gets it, we're here to have fun and his first ride I'm sure he'll come in guns blazing with smack talk.

@1TrackMind feel free to join and confirm what are rides are like. No one is going to shit on you and I promise you will have a blast. Riding solo is a whole different beast but when you can roll with a group of guys and lady(s) who will encourage you and push you, you'll understand that we are all fighting about the same thing here. How do we keep something we enjoy enjoy able and how can we make it better.

Eloquently put, that's pretty much what I have been trying to say since the beginning. While I use a lot of words they often do not come out in the correct order or at least one that makes sense for others. My number one excuse for this is 'english is not my first language', I use it all the time with my wife and it ends up making things worse almost 100% of the times, so what the heck, I'll use it here to!

I say that this really needs to be discussed in front of a steak or some delicious food and some mildly alcoholic beverage, there's nothing like a napkin to draw a mission statement!

Should this discussion have lasted this long ? Hell no ! But the rides have never been that way. I've had a better time riding with them than most groups rides I've been on. So yeah...give it try.
