IGVENTURE

RNG1, Iggy, I share your concerns (and hopes) 100%. I have 3 boys (10, 7 & 6) and I'm dreading the moment they'll leave home. Hang in there Iggy, it looks like you're on top of the ball and that's already a big advantage.

Matty, during what years where you sporting that "melena" (long, frothy hair) 😀 During the 80´s I was almost bold!

Iggy, I really like your blog/thread and the mix and balance between training stuff and the rest our your life. I feel identified in many aspects, except that I'm not as good on the bike 😀

I saw what you are talking with kids not experiencing anything when I lived in Utah. IMO, it was a massive problem. Most of the kids I knew came from very good homes, but their parents kept them locked up 24hrs a day. When these kids let loose their senior year....holy shit. They were insane. As strange as it may sound, it was WAY WAY easier to get in trouble in Park City than it was in NJ for me anyway. Everyone was up to something that I knew. I knew so many kids that just cracked after years of never being allowed to do ANYTHING....drugs, alcohol, you name it.

Jeez I didn't realize until now that I'm not the only old fart lurking on here. We let me see, if you remember the 70's that the era when the South Bronx was burning down and I was growing up. I remember friends having to sleep with clothes on because they were scared that if their building was torched they would have not have to run in the street in their underwear....How about the Oscar Gamble fro....

What can I say, if you were there you know what a great event this is. The Dark Horse Cycle guys have this race down, with such highlights as great food & beer, hose truck to clean up after and generous payouts. If your unsure about getting into racing thing this is an event that makes it all fun.

I raced the SS open catagory and got 8th out of 46 guys who finished. Klaxburger never showed up. He probably heard that I was racing and stayed home. Without him there I had no serious competition so I just took it easy and enjoyed the party.

Seriously... I felt kinda flat and was cramping at the end of the 1st lap. The next 20 miles was a struggle, I couldn't wait for this race to end. Fortunately I found my teammate Ilya and Vreeland to ride with for the 2nd half of lap 2. This was a big help, these guys provided motivation to bring it on home.

Yesterday race seemed like such an effort, Utah Joe made a comment on his blog that the Bearscat 50 was easier. I agree with this. I was in the zone for that race feeling no pain. Despite being out of the zone and feeling pain at the DH I'm happy with my finish and glad I stuck it out for the 2 laps.

Best Story of the Day
Almost through the 1st lap Mitch manages to loose the cleat bolts on his right shoe. He manages to pry the cleat out of the pedal and in his cambelbak he has spare cleat bolts which he reattaches his cleat to his shoe with. Who the f@*k carries spare cleat bolts!

So now what?

The DH40 is such a huge event that everyone prepares for and looks forward to, but when its over its like the day after Christmas...you kinda feel empty. The day after a race I always start plotting what I am going to do for the rest of the racing season. There is not much time left for mtb racing, once September rolls around everyone is doing cross races.

If you like the vibe of the 40 and want to do some enduro stuff in NJ, Mooch Madness is something worth check out. This will be the 2nd race my team is putting on this year. Like the Stewart 6-pack the goal is to have a good time. If you haven't made plans yet for the end of this month sign up and pencil this in so you can enjoy what is left of the mtb racing season.

Good times yesterday man. I totally feel that way about bearscat being easier. had to be the heat. Not sure, but in 5.5 hours there I felt good enough to do full on sprint to the finish with you....yesterday, forget it. Total misery.

Good job Iggy, way to hang in. The hear packed a punch yesterday, no doubt. And that's about as close as we get to a team pic. Nice!

IMO you need a week off the bike. You seem to have been dragging a bit lately. After yesterdays effort you deserve some time off.

Well done Igg's... 8th place and you felt flat, wow.... Very disappointed I had to skip out on the race but that was out of my control... I am really looking forward to racing the Mooch Madness... Everyone I have spoken to said the 6 Pack was a blast so I am hoping that can be replicated...

Yeah, I plan on taking this week off. Too many early mornings, too much heat, too much going fast...I have de-based myself. Next week re-base begins in prep for Mooch Madness.

With you there the party is on!

good job iggy...

i foretell this a week ago, that you'll finish either 6th or 8th...😀

what a coincidence huh??

Yeah its a good thing Klax didn't show up or I'd be calling you a liar.

Any early predictions on my next race...Mooch Madness, racing 45+. Who is John Russo(Bike Tech)?, I only know nick names. As of now I'm guaranteed a top 4 finish. If fussy britches Rob signs up he's in for top 5.

Where's Dave Clapp and Weber, those guys usually are in the mix.

The All-Star Break

Its good to take a break from the bike every so often. The period after the Dark Horse 40 is like the All-Star break for me. At this point in the cycling season I've already done 5 races. Between training for races and working outdoors my body and mind need a rest.

I know I'm getting worn out when riding becomes more of an effort. I can feel my body saying FU when I do hard rides and my HR is not very responsive. I took a week off following the DH 40. This was a good time to rest my body and ease up on the rigors of training.

Training Camp @ The Jersey Shore

Saturday marked the beginning of my next block of training as well as the kick off of my vacation. After the early shift at work I did a century tempo ride from upper Freehold to Princeton/Sourlands/6-mile area.http://connect.garmin.com/activity/104486355
This 100 miler didn't have a lot of climbing so I was able to hammer out a nice pace at tempo. The headwinds on the way back were more difficult then the hills. The temperature got hotter then I thought it was going to be, at about the 75 mile mark I got tired of drinking water and had to stop to buy a cold gatorade. The water in my camelbak was not cutting it.

I'm setting my sites on Mooch Madness to spank the other old guys in 45+. After that I'm going to do a couple H2H races, Jungle and WayWay. I like these two places and the weather should be cooler at this point. The Tour of Adirondacks has been on my radar and as of now I want to do it...as its gets closer I'll probably talk myself out of it. My season will end with Cathederal Pines in November.

Oh yeah and I am also down the shore to work on getting rid of my cyclists/golfers tan.

Rate my rack

No breaks for you!!! You are a machine😀... So Charleston Springs is home turf, eh??? I am not a golfer but my old man has nothing but good things to say about that course

Yeah Charleston is a nice course for public golf. I'm not a golfer but we do have our best people there😀
