Hurricane thread(aka kitchen appliances I can't afford thread)

from the OOS thread.

A huge branch fell off one of the trees while I was covering the hutch of the Mitsubishi Eclipse that had been perforated earlier by a ‘wooden projectile’...it snapped the power line to the garage and bashed the roof of the Mitsubishi in, while missing me by a few inches. After hearing an ominous noise I just had the time to look up and this huge branch was crashing inches away from my head and into the car. I have the feeling that my dad was looking after me on this one, many thanks were given.

The whole street is without power and it appears it will be for a few days, several hundred yards of line have been downed by fallen trees and a transformer caught fire. I'm gutted for the car, it was my permanently delayed project...debating with myself if I should find a new shell to move all the goodies (possibly a gsx) or just sell all the stuff and let it go (I have several replacement parts for it including a number of turbos all in new/rebuilt condition). Unfortunately no roof replacement among the spares...at least I should finally get a proper panel in the garage, the wife can't delay that project anymore now.

We had power. Everything was good. Houses to the left were good. Houses to the right had partial power. I lent my generator to the neighbor.

around 10:30pm they shut us all down. I assumed they were addressing the issue. 18 hours later, I should go get the generator

5 hours of manually cutting and dragging limbs out to the curb. Still no power. Why manually you ask? Because I decided 5 years ago to go with an electric for the small jobs and I hadn’t started the gas one in almost a decade.... for the sake of full disclosure, yes... I took the 100’ extension cord out, plugged it in to both the outlet and the saw and attempted to cut the limbs..... while the power is out!!!!!!!! I’m, a stupid! 🤪

30 hrs in. Generator is doing well. I have neighbors with a new born that left until power is restored so I’m running this thing all night long

About 30 hours in with no power here. Entire neighborhood is a cacophony of generators. JCPL is showing an estimated repair time of 11pm tonight, but I've been fooled by them during previous outages and I'm not falling for it again. Anything before the end of next week and I'll consider myself pleasantly surprised.
